The description for this product says something like "fitted with the industry standard firewire port, to work with older iPods." This in direct contrast to the picture, which shows the newer connector and ipod. do not buy this for your older ipod!

Don't bother.......2007-08-14
I bought this product to repair a DVD of my wedding ceremony. I only had that one copy of the ceremony, and it was badly scratched. So I bought this DVD Dr. to fix it. Now, it's unplayable. It completely ruined my DVD. i can't even watch my own wedding, and I certainly can't share it with long-distance relatives. Thanks a lot DVD Dr.

I had a really bad disc with what appeared to be very light scratches. I first tried a Memorex disc repair machine and that didn't help at all.
Bought this today and turned the handle and the wheel got stuck. Just a note to people that if this happens, it's because you're turning it the wrong way. The way the resurfacing material is put on the wheel makes it get stuck when you turn it towards you. Turn the wheel AWAY from you. Clockwise.
First try and the disc still wouldn't copy (it was a video capture I made) or play correctly. I tried again and was able to back it up finally on my computer with NO errors at all. I have now done a Scandisc in Nero CD/DVD speed and it's reported no errors. I think for some discs it will take 3-4 rotations, but overdoing it may be a risk!
NOTE: The buffer pad (not the wheel) scratches DVD-R media. Use something else to clean/buff the disc after it's repaired.
Tried Once With Success.......2007-06-09
I've only used it once so far and it worked. I had a badly damaged CD which wasn't ripping well and this product made a huge difference. I gave four stars for being overpriced and cheaply made. The bottom line is that it did save a CD which I thought was a lost cause.

I have yet to fix a single cd, dvd, or video game disc with this piece of junk. And they didn't even have deep scratches. They were just superficial scratches that prevent the disc from working. Save yourself the time (believe me you will spend a lot of time buffing and polishing after the actual grinding process), energy and money by simply buying a replacement cd, dvd or video game. I hope that others will learn from my mistake.

I have to admit looking at it at first glance it does appear to be a piece of cheap plastic, yet the thing actually has repaired discs for me that family video could not repair with their commercial machine. The most important step after using the device is to buffer the DVD with the buffing pad otherwise it won't work well. The reason I gave this thing 4 stars is because it doesn't work at all with mini-dvds, which is disappointing. They should release a mini-dvd repair machine as well because I have some gamecube discs that are scratched up.
