My review on the SYS510BA .......2007-11-14

I was hesitant on purchasing this speaker set because for me it was only available online and I didn't really want to go through the return process. I took a chance and ordered it because I am familiar with the BOSTON ACOUSTICS brand and they are a good company. After receiving the speakers and testing them with an Onkyo receiver I am happy to report that they are excellent, the sound quality is very good for both music and movies and the subwoofer is very capable. The build quality is impressive. For someone who is looking for something better than what comes in a home theater in a box, this has exceeded my expectations and I am a very happy listener.

I am getting married soon and when faced with my rather largish Infinity system my Fiance' was a bit taken aback with the shear size of all the equipment. I didn't blink and went in search of a replacement system. I knew I would have to compromise and was not looking forward to it. When I found the Boston Acoustics (BA) system I was very skeptical as I was quite spoiled by my great sounding Infinity system. The speakers in this BA system are a fraction of the size but felt very substantial. My Fiance' was very pleased with the size and that was one of my goals. Now, for the true test...how will it sound. I went from a 300 watt 12" sub woofer to an 8" 50 watt sub. That by itself was a bit disconcerting. Yes, I am giving up some bass extension yet I am happy to report very tight bass at moderate to low volumes. I am not into super loud listening so I cannot report how it does in those conditions. The very small speakers, including the center, sound great with normal TV and music. Voices, especially, sound very accurate. I am a fussy listener and would happily give a negative review but this system is a bargain and yet the price does not reflect the quality of sound. I am happy to report that this BA system is much more than I imagined and even though it is a trade-off, sound wise, from my Infinity system it is a fraction of the price. A side by side comparison not withstanding, the BA speakers speak for themselves, and do it very well! Happy wife, happy life!

My place is small and although I imagined something not as wide as this unit, everyone still comments on how good it looks. An old look to it with some modern furniture. It was easy to assemble and it is very steady!
