The Kevlar fiber cone material offers an ideal mix of strength and low weight. Traditional driver materials must increase mass to provide greater amounts of rigidity, but these materials tend to be slow and inaccurate. Kevlar, combined with Sony's HOP (Highly Oriented Polyolefin), delivers extremely high strength and low mass. This allows for high power handling (up to 150 watts per channel) and ideal frequency response. HOP is a proprietary speaker-cone material offering high strength, low weight, and low resonance, contributing to the speaker's excellent transient response, high power handling, and flat frequency response. Frequency response extends down to 45 Hz, giving you all but the lowest audible octave of bass.
The balanced-dome tweeter represents a Sony refinement of the classic dome tweeter, which places the voice coil inside the tweeter's circumference for superb dispersion and reduced distortion than traditional tweeters.
The SS-MF550H pair comes with 2 lengths (8.2 feet each) of speaker cable to simplify hookup with your integrated amplifier or surround receiver.

Well you get what you pay for i have some similar speakers by them and they are ok and when i heard these speakers in a local electronics store in a acoustic balance closed room i wasnt really impress by the sound the highs sounded cheap the mids were ok and the bass it was faint i would say these are great for beginners have some kenwoods at home that out kick these any day.

These spreakers are a type of product that I have been looking for and have been unable to find through online electronics dealers or in stores. My intended use for this system is for a stereo that I don't use very often but tear down and set up at various locations throughout my home, ie; garage, basement workshop, outdoors,etc. They are compact enough to be moved easily yet have the power handling and cabinet volume to provide respectable sound volume levels and bass response. I would recommend this system to anyone who desires impressive performance at a modest price.
SONY'S VERSION OF POLK SPEAKERS.......2006-01-27
I HAVE TO SAY THAT I BEGAN LISTENING TO THESE SPEAKERS LAST YEAR AT LEAST A HALF DOZEN TIMES BEFORE I PURCHASED THEM.
THE HIGH'S AND MID'S ARE REALY NICE AND SMOOTH, THE BASS ( LOW'S) ARE DECENT, I THINK IF I HAD A MORE POWERFUL RECEIVER I WOULD GET BETTER BASS OUT OF THE SPEAKER. I HAVE THESE HOOKED UP TO MY SONY STR-DE595 90 WATT RECEIVER AND I HAVE ALL SONY SPEAKERS FROM THE SAME FAMILY FOR SURROUND SOUND. I MUST SAY I AM VERY HAPPY WITH THEM. IF YOUR LOOKING FOR INEXPENSIVE SPEAKERS FOR A BEGINNER THESE WILL BE JUST FINE.
I HAD POLK'S BEFORE AND THESE ARE COMPRABLE TO THOSE.
Great speakers but best in a theater.......2005-08-30
I have the whole set these babys are good but if you want them for 2-channel music either step up to the 750's, subwoofer them or just spend twice as much on infinity. But if you want a budget theater system buying these with the small 150's for SS, CN550 for center, and whatever sub will hide there small flaws and express there strength. In combo they sound great better than those crap BOSE (B uy O ther S ound E quipment). Or almost any HTIB even 1500$ ones. These are sony of canada speakers they are much better than past sonys but they are entry level. You will not be disapointed.

Nice For The Price.......2007-12-25
I was in the market for a new Surround system for my bedroom. I just purchased a Hyundai 32" LCD and wanted a good sound with it. My previous DVD/VCR home theater was an RCA, and I didn't have many problems with it, other than it would not play some DVD's properly (Back to the future trilogy, would not play the pop-up special feature's) and it didn't have enough inputs. I have always liked RCA's equipment. I have owned DVD players as well as TV's with no problems. I also have a 52" projection tv made by them that works fine. I went to my local Wal-mart hoping to pick up a good surround sound for my room to replace the one I had and I didn't want to have to wait 3 or 4 days to have one. I came accross this unit (RT2770)(reciever and speakers only). For the price I thought, why not so I picked this unit up as well as the RCA DRC8335 DVD Recorder/VCR. Long review made shorter, I had to replace the DVD recorder combo unit after about month or so. Would not play DVD's and would get very hot to the touch. The reciever unit, I replaced the 40mm fan(origianl fan got loud)myself instead of returning to RCA for $6. The actual sound from this receiver is "ok", but not the best I have heard. We purchase Onkyo units for where I work and I am more pleased with the sound with those units. If you are looking for a quick dirty surround sound hook-up, this one works, but if you care about great sound, look for something else.
Low volume complaints - sound quality - studio setting missing???.......2007-11-21
Ok, here is the deal.
1) Your best bet is Dolby PL Emulation.
2) Your inputs from the Window/Apple/Linux/External inputs need to be LOW> this unit is sensitive to high outputs. Just turn down your PC mixer setting no matter what os and deal with it. Its a good trade off.
P.S. when running digital COAX or fiber, you have no control on windows with the master volume control. Knock down the other volume settings on the mixer.
3) Digital inputs achieve no volume with this BITCX!
4) If you want volume you need a sound card that lets you do SPDIF digital or fiber AND analogue output at the same time or you are SCREWED! Take it back now.
Don't know what the deal is???
The quality seems to drop on digital + analog, but it's worth 100 bucks more than my Regent for 49.00
5) You get AM/FM + nicer look + higher quality + fiber/coax inputs + preset eq's
6) If your saving money, buy the right sound card.
7) My recommendation is to spend another 150 bucks and get the real deal.
8) I don't need the extra volume so I rather spend 150 buck on escaping the carbon credit economy by investing in food and water. HA, LOL.....
9) Studio surround setting gives you the most control at the most volume, but it only seems to be available on FM/AM mode??? whatever, sucks. Get the firmware fixed RCA.#$(*@#)(*%)@(*%^

Not Bad At All.......2007-10-19
Pros: Easy color-coded setup, easy to use, headphone jack, multiple speaker setup options, decent sound quality, surprisingly good subwoofer with its own on/off switch.
Cons: Weak inputs (maxxed out at 50, digital coax sound volume from our DVD player in a medium sized room was very good and definitely loud enough but left no reserve), hardwired speakers.
We settled on a 3.1 setup where Surround Sound outputs are routed to the front left/right speakers and didn't use rear speakers at all (We don't really want/need full 5.1, however, to get the speaker separation we wanted in the front we used the rear speakers with their longer wires). This works well for our needs and had there been more volume reserve and speakers that weren't hardwired then I would have given this unit 4.5/5 stars.
Good For the Money.......2007-09-19
You will not be able to find a better system for the price it has its cons (mainly weak imputs) but on the up side the sysem really kicks when playing call of duty 4 or if you hook ur ipod up to it. i also have my macbook hooked up to it and it sounds great. it also dosent have a dvd player as they say but thats not a big deal for me. over all it is a solid buy you will not be able to get anything better for the price!!!
