Cable works, but price was high and plug broke.......2007-12-20
This cable worked fine for over a year. It looks nice, and the mesh sleeve is a nice touch. The end that was plugged in to my home theater PC had no problems, but the end plugged in to my TV was pulled at a slight angle due to the location of my HDMI port. Eventually the gold part of the connector on the TV side worked itself loose from the rest of the cable and the whole thing stopped working. There is some strain relief in the material surrounding the plug, but I believe the plug itself is just glued in. If you do use this cable, be sure that the ends are plugged directly in to the ports with no undue tension.
The price on this cable was also too high. I have since followed the recommendations of the folks at AVSForum and stuck with Blue Jeans Cable / Monoprice. I have found that the lower priced cables, especially ones as short as 6 feet, have no problems driving displays up to 1080p, and I have never seen any "sparklies" (indicative of a pixel that didn't get transmitted properly) or other differences between one cable and another. I recommend buying solely on the basis of price and build quality, and while both are adequate for this cable, you can do better.
Bogus Price.......2007-09-30
NEVER pay this sort of price for ANY alleged "high-def" cable. Check eBay ($1.99 + shipping), Pricegrabber, and Craigslist before you proceed. 95% of the time the average user will notice no difference unless there are gauges connected to the home theater system monitering signal loss. Aside from the price, the quality of the cable is very good and thus warrants being purchased for a fair price.
Forget the Monster Priced Cable.......2007-08-03
I'm using this cable to connect a Playstation 3 to a Samsung 46" 1080p LCD TV. It works perfectly and costs 1/4 the price of monstercable. Also buying from amazon you'll be paying 1/2 the price for the same cable compared to Best Buy.

If you've decided to forego purchasing your HDMI cables at the retailers and came here instead, you've already taken a step in the right direction. However, there is absolutely no reason to spend more than $[...] on an HDMI cable, unless you are dealing with cables that are 25" or longer. Even then, the likelihood of problems is very low. There are plenty of retailers out there that sell these for very cheap. [...] is a reputable source among Slickdeals/Fatwallet members.
The reality is, as another poster mentioned, these cables carry a digital signal. This means a high voltage level to represent 1 and a low voltage level to represent 0. Since the line can only carry two possible values, any noise in the line that skews these values must be VERY large in order to push a 0 to a 1 or vice-versa. Unless you live inside a nuclear reactor (OK, maybe that's overkill) you do not need all of the expensive shielding that these high priced cables give you.
On top of that, even in a high noise environment shielding will not improve the "quality" of a digital signal in the way you might think. If there is enough noise to interfere with the 1's and 0's then your TV will be getting garbage data from whatever is on the other end of the cable. Meaning your TV screen will display garbage, and it will be very apparent that you either have a defective cable or you are in a high-noise environment and need a high quality cable (unlikely).
So why not buy yourself a cheap cable and try it out first? As long as it works at all, it will be giving you as good a quality picture as the expensive one.
