No Montreal Metro Stations!.......2007-10-26

Got this for a recent trip to Montreal, Canada, and was shocked and amazed to discover that the map does NOT include **ANY** Montreal Metro stations! Weirdly, the surface AMT railway stations are included, but to get around downtown on foot, you really need the Metro stations so this map is useless if you plan to use your Garmin device to get around Montreal without a car.
Total waste of money in my case.

MetroGuide North America V7.......2007-09-04

I purchased the Vista to replace my old ETrek that I took with me to Iraq. The Old ETrek Screen was going out so I had to buy another one since the cost of repairs would be equal or greater than the cost of a new one.
I purchased an Etrek Vista from [...] then I decided to purchase the additional software. After reading some reviews off the [...] Web site, I wrote down the part number and went to my local Best Buy and purchased it.
I down loaded the Web Updater from the Garmin web site then I updated my Vista with the maps that I need. I then decided to try to do something that I throught that only the manufacturer could only do I tried to read my ETrek.
I was able to copy all my old saved WayPoints from my Old ETrek, Software 2.14 needed to do this, to my computer then I was able to transfer them into my ETrek Vista. Now I can tell my friends how far Baghdad is from them.
I never would have dreamed that I could have done this, I thought that I was going to lose the WayPoints of where I had been at in Iraq forever, now I can preserve them. The Old ETrek next destination is the Ohio Veterans Home Museum.

Street numbers backwards!.......2007-08-02

I only used maps one time. While in Gatlinburg, TN, I used my Etrex (loaded with MetroGuide). On the map of the street where my motel was located, the street numbers were backwards. The blocks were in the right order, but a store that I was looking for was located at the wrong end of the block! Guess that's one for the updates!

Old, Outdated Version - "Buy it somewhere else.".......2007-04-30

Just got off the phone from Amazon.

Another reviewer on March 23, 2007 warned that Amazon only sold the OLD, OUTDATED VERSION 7 (not the current version 8).

It's been over a month now since that review and when I called Amazon to verify if they are now selling the new version 8 (released in Sept 2006), they told me they were selling Volume 5 (couldn't tell me if it was version 7 or version 8), and if I wanted version 8, I "SHOULD BUY IT SOMEWHERE ELSE."

Garmin MetroGuide for GPS.......2007-04-12

Downloading is fairly basic once the disparate instructions are pulled together. New maps work about as expected, but use near boundaries of original base map versus downloaded detail is awkward. When leaving detail area, the base area is blank until actually entered, i.e., up to half the screen is blank.

METROGUIDE 2008.......2007-10-28

I have used Rinos & metro guide since 2001 v4. the current v8 2008 apparently has a problem where the routing favors freeway/interstate over local roads even when selecting shortest route. I've sent e-mail to Garmin concerning this problem. I'll be reverting to v4 metroguide to establish its the metroguide vs Rino software. The 530 HCX loading of maps via the usb cable is a joke. Have to pull the memory card and use a usb adapter & plug into a PC directly. The 530 HCX otherwise is a dream, but when will we be able to have both topo and metro maps loaded and accessable for the same area?

Best maps for Garmin GPS.......2003-06-13

Note that although v5 is now out, it's really more of a map data vendor change than an "update". The interface is identical, and much of the map data is, too. The main differences will be in Alaska and Hawaii. You can use the map viewer at Garmin's web site to check out what the v5 maps look like.

Also, MetroGuide v5 can only be used to create routes on a PC. You cannot use its maps to create routes on a StreetPilot or other GPS that does its own routes. You can use the City Select CDs to do this.

Finally, if you're wondering what the difference between this and Roads & Recreation, that is intended for older and low memory (1MB or less) units. If you have 8MB or more, get MetroGuide.

I got this for my eTrex Legend. Like the other reviewers have said, the maps are pretty badly out of date. If you're in a relatively new area, don't expect this CD to have any streets listed.

If you are navigating in an established area that's been around for more than three or four years, you'll find the maps to be pretty helpful. They are very detailed, and I've found that even if a restaurant isn't properly located on the map, the marker is usually within walking distance of where it should be. Note though, that because this map data is rapidly aging, a lot of these restaurants have gone out of business and no longer exist.

I live in Los Angeles, and the area is so big that Garmin split it up into two maps on this CD. One covers just about everything west of the 710 freeway, and another covers everything from the 710 east out to Palm Desert and Orange County. The problem is that these two maps are like 7 megs EACH.

If you live in the Los Angeles area and require full coverage, the 8 MB of the eTrex Legend just isn't enough to hold it all at once. That's not a big deal for me, but it would have been nice to know that beforehand.

If you have a need for coverage of the entire LA/OC area, you'd be much better off with an eTrex Vista which has 24 megs of memory (and costs more than twice as much as the Legend!)

Works Great on My Garmin.......2003-02-01

Much has been written in these Amazon.com reviews about the problems with this product. And, I find it hard to disagree with much of what has been said. However, when I load it into my GPS Map 76S it is a beautiful thing. It looks better on the GPS than on the computer. I also like the ability to build, and save, routes on my computer and then load them in the GPS as needed. It is much easier to use a full computer screen and a mouse to click the waypoints, rather than using the much smaller GPS screen and controls. Probably my biggest gripe is the pre-defined areas that can be loaded to the GPS. One corner of New York City is on the New Jersey map. So to get the as small part of the western side of the Island of Matthatten, you have to use valuable memory loading the top half of New Jersey. MapSource is not as nice a map as my DeLorme, which I use all the time on my computer. However, this is the only game in town for use with the Garmin GPS. If you want a map to use on your computer get DeLorme or the Microsoft product, both of which are cheaper that MapSource. If you have a Garmin GPS this is a product, despite some flaws, does work very well.
