Customer Reviews:
Very poor quality.......2007-08-07
I bought this TV in Feb 2006. It had bad bowing problems and had to be replaced two weeks after purchase. The replacement TV also had bowing problems and Samsung finally got around to sending me a tech in Feb 2007 to repair it. The tech was from an independent service ctr here in VT and is the tech for Sony and panasonic as well. He told me they regularly saw quality problems with this TV and to stay away from it. Now it is Aug 2007 and out of warranty. The TV has shut off completely and does not turn on. I called Samsung and they told me that since it is out of warranty I am responsible for it. Their customer service is not helpful at all, kept me on hold for hours, and transfered me to different departments. Finally, their customer relations executive told me she was tranferring me to senior management. A week later when I called to follow up, I found she had lied and closed the case. How do they sell a $800 TV that is so bad, and follow up with customer service that is dishonest? I guess this is the last time I will buy a Samsung product.
To be fair, the TV has a very good picture, bright and clear, and better than LCDs or plasmas. Bending was my only problem at first. Later of course after a year, the TV started shutting off after 20 min, and finally refused to turn on at all. Period. The guy from Best Buy immeadiately said they saw many people with the same issue, and he recommended a replacement to a Sony to me. He even told me which part was bad with the TV and said Samsung has a systematic issue with this part that they refuse to recall. Before buying a TV, talk confidentially to the Best Buy folk about which TVs they see coming back for reliability issues.
The parts and build appear poor, especially the on/off button is cheap plastic. Look around on the web for problem reviews with this TV, and you can see the defect rate is very high. It is a question of economics. Even if they ship 1 defective TV with every 2-3 good TVs, they probably make enough profit to cover repairing the defective one if the customer brings it back in the warranty period. Just bad ethics is all.
Major bang-for-the-buck value..........2007-07-23
I just happened to stumble on to this model in an HH Gregg store while looking for an inexpensive 20" HDTV to play PS3 games on, as well as movies in Blu-Ray, and occassionlly watch SDTV programming. What a great buy!!!
My earlier purchase of a Vizio 20" LCD HDTV turned out to be very disappointing, mostly due to the poor picture quality when viewing SDTV. All the reviews on the Vizio were very positive, even the comments regarding SDTV programming. Wrong! I've since returned the Vizio.
I found out that any flat-panel LCD screen looks poor in SD. Even Sony's newest 46" LCD XBR's look sad in SD. Virtually all HDTV's look great or close to great as long as you are viewing HD programming. Make the sales staff demonstrate SD programming on any set you may be considering to purchase. You'll be glad you did. Even today, HD probably only accounts for 30-35% of what people end up viewing, even when they have an excellent HD setup. Just still not enough HD programming available.
Samsung's TXT3093 uses CRT technology, giving great HD performance, and even excellent SD imaging. In addition to the terrific picture quality, the unit offers 2 HDMI, 1 Component, and several composite inputs as well as an optical digital output. Great set for the money!
The other side of the spectrum..........2007-07-16
The TXT3093 30inch Samsung Slimfit is not all it's cut out to be. I read the reviews before mine and ordered promptly from another retailer giving my worries the benefit of the doubt, and unfortunately I found this TV to be as flawed as the other models before it. I'll explain.
I got the TV on July 15th and proceeded to unpack it. It's heavy, but not as heavy as Sony CRT HDTVs. This is a plus. I plugged the TV in and it greeted me with a little melody. This was nice and surprising. As soon as I turned it on, I immediately went into the menus. The interface was really easy to use. The geometry seemed alright, but it would need more testing. In the options, I changed the screen color to blue, and this is where the problems began.
First, I noticed discoloration in every single corner of the TV. The top left corner had the most obvious discoloration as it was a bright purple. The other corners consisted of a lighter purple hue, a green hue, and a red hue.
Second, I decided to test screen dimensions. 16:9 looked great, 4:3 was symmetrical, but any image in fit-to-screen mode, while great looking, was extremely bowed(curved) in the top left corner(where the purple discoloration was).
Third, there were several nicks in the screen. About 7 to be exact. While they weren't so noticeable from a distance, on white scenes or closer up, they sort of looked like stuck pixels on a LCD screen. I can understand the bowing and discoloration(inherent to budget CRT technology) , but nicks on a tv straight out of the factory? It's really quite unacceptable.
All in all, I'm quite underwhelmed. The picture looks great, and there is no motion blur on my PS3, nor are there any response time issues, but text is virtually unreadable in HD 1080i, especially for HD videogames( the primary reason I purchased this tv).
Based on the reviews before mine, I got my hopes up and really thought my experience might be similar to those. Boy was I wrong. I'll probably end up returning it for a replacement, and if the same issues occur, I'll go with a different brand altogether.
best Samsung CRT HDTV so far.......2007-07-02
I looked at the Samsung TXS3082WH 30" Wide Slimfit HDTV and noticed the geometry problems others reference. When I looked at this tv in Best Buy (it was a demo), I noticed no such picture flaws. I flipped through several 4:3 programs and saw that, for the most part, the geometry issues have been resolved. The vertical lines along the side are amost perfectly parallel, and I saw no bowing along the bottom of the screen during graphics crawls. Also, the 'info' button dislays more than one line of program information, so the entire synopsis of the show can be read at the touch of a button. Last year's model only displayed one line of info.
This model also offers a "dynamic multiple focus electron gun,' which is designed to give better spot focus, better corner-to-corner focus, and higher resolution picture quality. Perhaps this new improved gun has corrected most of the geometry display issues. I compared this tv side-by-side with the 200 lb. mac-daddy of CRT HDTV's, the 200-pound Sony WEGA KD-34XBR970 34" FD Trinitron Digital HDTV and I couldn't believe my eyes--the Samsung had a brighter, more dynamic picture with more depth. I stepped away from the two tvs and returned to compare again, and I saw the same thing--this tv gives a brighter picture with more clarity than the Sony. It also weighs about half as much as the Sony and has 2 HDMI inputs in the back (the Sony only has one.)
The remote control is also much improved--featuring a backlight function for the volume, channel, and active source button. The previous remote featured no such illumination. The remote is colored completely black, and has a textured front and back surface, making it easy to grip. The layout of the remote is basically the same, one or two buttons have been moved for convenience.
For the price, I would highly recommend this tv. The picture on this unit is better than most LCDs I saw in the store, and it costs much less than the DLPs or plasmas. This tv is also on sale at Best Buy for $600--a great deal for a tube HDTV with a great picure.
Great HD TV for the size.......2007-06-01
Did a lot of Research before i bought this TV. This model I believe has fixed all the geometry issues the prev once had. I have had no problems so far. Better picture than an LCD. Even Looks like an LCD. A Great HD TV.

Wow.......2007-12-05
I have no idea how anyone could complain about this television.
I've had it for a little over a month and it's changed the way I watch TV.
The picture quality is amazing, the sound though is what surprised me.
Even without a surround sound system, the television's own speakers provide astonishingly crystal clear sound. This is the sort of TV that makes me wish my digital cable provider made available all HD-channels rather than just a handful.
The set was just what I wanted, an inexpensive, easy way to get myself into the HD-arena. I still want to buy a plasma screen in a year or two, but for right now I am most pleased.
samsung 30" slimfit tv.......2007-11-27
delivery was prompt but it does not tell you its NOT a flat screen even though the picture looks like one the tv is hevy as hell and has a back on the lower half of the tv .
Luck of the Draw.......2007-10-18
I've had an older model of this tv for almost two years. It broke once in the first month, got it fixed for free from best buy. It's been working great since then.
A lot of the reviews complain about misalignment or severe bowing around the corners. My tv doesn't do this at all, but I have seen some that have. My guess is that it's the luck of the draw--I got lucky. The only problem with the screen is best buy's fault. When they fixed it, they must have turned the brightness up, because now i have a minor burn-in on the lower right corner...way to piss me off! My other complaint is that CRT's are old technology. They are so damn heavy, it's a pain to move it. Check out LCD's.
My recommendation is if you're on a severe budget but want an HDTV, get this. Get it at a local store because there are many potential problems, you can just go get it swapped.
If, however, you have a little more (meaning a couple hundred more) to spend, I'm going to suggest the Sharp Aquos line of tv's. If you shop at the right times, you can get a 26" or even a 30" for around 700. If you're in the market for an HDTV and want quality, you're pretty limited to Samsung (best), Sony, and Sharp. Everything is notably inferior when compared side to side. If you're going for extreme budget, go with Vizio.
I give this four stars because for the my tv, it's a great quality with a good budget. However, compare it to an LCD, and there are a lot of faults. One thing CRT's will always have an upper hand is the richness of black colors. Happy Shopping!
An Excellent Tv.......2007-09-18
It has fulfilled every single thing I have wanted from an HDTV, the picture is amazing, the amount of inputs is great too. I highly recommend this TV.
Returned mine.......2007-09-12
I have no problem with the picture of this television in general, but after two bad experiences with different TVs, I am now planning on returning this model for good. The problems I have had each time are discoloration (purplish or yellow) of the screen in either the upper right or upper left area. I could see the discoloration markedly when you display a white image on the screen.
I figured at first that this was a problem with the store that I bought the sets, but instead after reading TV forums, I have concluded that Samsung seems to be selling numerous faulty TV sets of this model. Considering that I struck out twice in a row, I would not recommend that anyone else get this set. Find something else.

Low Loss, Low Distortion, Silver-Coated Video Cable
VDM-3 video / digital cable from AudioQuest is specially designed to minimize distortion across an extremely wide bandwidth. Low-loss engineering means more of your video or digital signal reaches its destination intact and undisturbed for maximum quality.
Accommodates a Wide Range of Signals
A 75-ohm cable is a conduit which needs to be able to carry a variety of signals. It needs to accommodate relatively low frequency analog composite video (up to 4.2 MHz), super-sensitive SP/DIF digital audio (up to 24.576 MHz), uncompressed HDTV (up to 750 MHz), or cable TV / broadband (up to 1 GHz). That's a series of heavy demands for a cable, but AudioQuest comes through with VDM-3, which is specially designed to carry all these signals with minimum interference from the cable.
Product Description
CinemaQuest YIQ component video cables include three identical maximum performance coaxial cables, one for each of the three component signals; the "Y" (b&w) signal and the "I" and "Q" signals (also known as Pb and Pr), which contain all the color information. In the two channel S-video system (also known as Y/C), the "I" and "Q" component signals are combined to create a single "C" signal. When available, a three channel component signal is better because it avoids the degradation caused by the process of combining and separating.YIQ-G uses a solid Silver-Plated center conductor insulated with Hard Cell Foam (HCF). Silver-plating greatly improves high frequency performance for a fraction of the cost of solid silver. Nitrogen Injected HCF reduces distortion caused by the insulating material, and helps maintain a stable 75W. The combination foil and braid shield provides 100% protection coverage. Gold-Plated RCA connectors are professionally attached with superior AudioQuest solder.
