HEY JVC!! Lens Cap ERROR on this model, too.......2007-04-28

COME ON JVC!!! This is really pitiful! I bought a GRDF-450u about 15 months ago based on the high marks from Consumer Reports and only used it occasionally. It still looks brand new. Then, out of nowhere, I get blindsided with the dreaded "Lens Cap" error and now it is absolutely useless! (for those of you not familiar with the LENS CAP error, basically the camcorder powers up fine but will not record because it falsely senses the Lens Cap is on when it is not. The viewfinder and LCD screen are blank except for "LENS CAP" flashing) Several JVC camcorder (various model numbers) owners have fallen victim to this obvious design/manufacturing flaw. JVC's product development and quality assurance must really suck. JVC has offered to fix this on several camcorder models but NOT the GRDF450u? WHY??!!! I mean this model put JVC in the spotlight!! Consumer Reports rated it #2 last year. I guess they didn't know it was going to be a LEMON. Do yourself a favor and try another brand such as Sony, Panasonic or Hitachi.

Lens cap error? Fix it yourself for free!.......2007-02-14

See my review of the GR-DF430U for more information. I'll try to help anyone with this problem, as the repair is relatively simple and you can do it yourself. No need to pay JVC anything at all. They should have fixed this problem long ago, but refused to help out their customers for whatever reason. A bad business decision, in my opinion.

Contact me if you require assistance and instructions on how to fix this problem. Save your hard-earned money and don't pay JVC to fix this!

Duh...Lens Cap Error!.......2006-11-22

I wish I had read these reviews long ago. I've owned my JVC GRDF 450U for about 14 months...it worked fine...until I needed it a few days ago. I've spent hours trying to figure out what the heck I had done to cause the "lens cap error"...only to find that it wasn't me. The repair shop tells me it'll cost between $175 and $225 to fix it...plus tax. Right. Sorry I bought this camcorder...and the extended battery packs, as well as the wide angle and telephoto lens. Needless to say JVC ain't getting any more of my money.

Another "Len's Cap" Error.......2006-11-06

The camcorder was great for a couple of months, and then, the dreaded "Lens Cap" error. Now it is useless. Fortunately, I bought the extended warranty from Sams, where I bought the camera. Now I'm waiting to see how that works out. Either way, unfortunately, the camera clearly isn't well made or reliable. Once fixed, I'll use it when convenient -- until I find a new one that is equally good and made by a more reliable manufacturer.

Do not waste your money or time.......2006-10-31

I purchased this camcorder less than a year ago. I had to exchange it within 4 days of purchase becasue of the lense cover error, now 10 months later my second one is doing the same thing. JVC pretty much says it is a fluke thing, I guess not. Also AmericanTV where it was purchased is doing the oh well as well. I will never purchase another JVC product or shop american. I have lost alot of memories do to this very common proplem.
