This is a pretty good camera.... very easy to use, small and easy to handle. Nice picture quality, but zoom feature isn't great. I would certainly recommend this camera for the price!

Cheap camera, you get what you paid for.......2007-12-27

I've had this camera for about 6 months now, and I am about to abandon it for a Canon Rebel XT. The Nikon Coolpix L11 is a nice camera and it takes decent pictures, but it has terrible loading and booting up issues. When you take a picture with the flash it takes nearly 4-7 seconds for you to take another. I would not recommend this camera if you are into action shots.

i love this little camera. i'm not a professional photographer, all i need is a little camera that points and shoots and this camera does just that. it doesn't have too many fancy features, but i wouldn't understand how to use them anyway. if you are looking for a decent camera that takes decent pictures for a reasonable price look no further!

For a $100 point and shoot, the L11 is excellent bang for the buck. Its ideal for someone who does not want to deal with manual settings, it has about 15 pre-programmed shoot modes, apart from from the all-pervasive AUTO mode. Its extremely light and more importantly it fares pretty well in the two features I consider most important for the compulsive AUTO-mode shooter: image quality and AF (with face detection).

There are obviously other point and shoot cameras like the Canon IS series that are extremely high performing, but for a budget camera the L11 works.

Between the price and what you get, this made a very nice gift for my boyfriend. The downsides: It's not the most user-friendly camera; you'll probably need to sit down with the manual before shooting much. It also only comes with internal memory, so you get about seven shots out of the box. You'll have to buy memory to get any more.

This is the first digital camera that I have owned. The L11 is now about the same price that I paid for this one. I would definately make that purchase. This one has been a good introduction to digital photography.

On the automatic settings the pictures are saved at 72dpi which is good for internet usage. On the specific settings they are 300dpi. Some of the elements on the specific settings are changable (flash, exposure etc.) which allow you to modify your pictures and expand your abilities. It is also instructive to look at the information that each picture was taken at, exposure, etc. to see how the settings work. The only thing that I have disapointed with so far is the amount of noise on night pictures. There is an automatic noise reduction but I think that it could work a little better.

There is a voice recorder that allows you to make voice additions to the pictures which is good if you are trying out several specific effects with the picture. It also means that you don't have to write down names, places, and other information for the picture identification.

To go with this I would immediately get rechargeable batteries and a charger, a memory card and a case I found all three of those at Walgreens and Walmart for under $40.

I would definately recommend this as an entry level digital camera and also as one that you wnat to carry with you don't want to lug around a big camera kit.

Good, but a little outdated.......2007-11-07

I bought the Nikon Coolpix L10 as my first digital compact P&S camera. I read quite a few reviews and settled on this camera. I had it for a couple of weeks, until mine had a 'lens error' that basically made the camera inoperable (it was stuck open). It might've been due to batteries running low, but I tried another set (which I now think was also low). But it would've been nice if the camera gave a hint that there wasn't enough battery charge left to extend or retract the lens instead of a generic 'lens error' msg. The LCD turned on enough to display the error msg, and then shuts off after about 7 seconds.

I took close to 150 pictures with the original AA batteries that came with it. I returned the camera and decided to upgrade to a more advanced Kodak Z712 IS (7 MP 12x optical zoom & image stabilization) because I wanted to do more than just vacation snapshots once in a while. The picture quality from the L10 was very good, a bit of barrel distortion was noticed in the wide angle and shooting tall skyscrapers (noticed by the curve along the side of the frame where the buildings are supposed to be straight).

Another gripe I had with the camera was how slow the auto-focus was. It would basically go through the whole range of focus every time I pressed the shutter half-way and then some. Also because it lacks a AF assit lamp, it failed to focus in dim lighting. This became more annoying the more I used it.

The camera tended to keep the ISO low in the auto mode. Which meant to get enough exposure, the shutter speed had to slow down, which meant in most hand-held shots, one has to have very steady hands or the result will be blurred images. Now that I think about it, I probably would've preferred more aggressive ISO bumping because in low light situations, I'd rather get a clearer, noisy high ISO picture, instead of a low noise but blurred picture. Eventually a lot of my pictures came out blurry, including outdoor overcast days with 3x optical zoom. Basically anytime there's zoom & less than ideal lighting, I would have to have rock steady hands to get non-blurry pictures.

Overall it's a good camera if you can overlook the issues I mentioned.

Lens Error.......2007-07-11

This camera was great until I got the "Lens Error" message on my screen. Beware buyers - apparently a small drop of the camera or even a little dust in the lens is going to ruin it to the point where you may as well buy a new one. Repairs for this kind of error cost between $90 and $120 with shipping to boot. It's not worth it. Like I said, when it worked, it was wonderful (needs work on low-light shots, but overall not bad) and compact, but I've only had mine for a year and took care of it and I still get the pleasure of spending yet more money to buy a new one. Definitely not Nikon next time.

This camera is really good, and I got all what I expected, 7.2 MP gives clear picture and I gets sufficient close view with 5 optical zoom.

Lens Error - on a 2 month old camera ---already had to be returned. .......2007-04-27

I have a 2 month old Nikon, and it keeps saying Lens Error on the screen. I looked on the internet and it is a common problem. Problem shooting guide states: turn it off and on a few times, and if that doesn't repair it, contact Nikon Customer Service. Nikon Customer Service said to mail the product in (on my buck) and they'll return it in about 2 weeks. It may or may not be covered by warranty, (they couldn't say for sure without seeing the camera first). It is a compact camera with a great zoom. Overall, not reliable, and my next camera will be an Olympus or Cannon for sure. A great zoom isn't very useful if the camera won't operate!!

Disappointed.......2007-03-09

It would seem that Nikon's line of Coolpix point & shoot cameras have declined in quality over the past two or three years. The autofocus is terrible, and camera performance is very slow. After only a few days, I returned the camera for a full refund. Nikon, where did you go wrong?

Marginal value, image quality, and hardware.......2007-12-10

With the L12, you get about what you pay for. A camera with VR for under $150 is reasonable, 7MP is about average now, and the image quality is acceptable.

The main problem with the L12 is the frequency of lens errors. I've had a number of these returned at my store for this problem and the display model suffered from the same. The lens will extend, make a clicking sound, and do one of the following: shut off, fail to autofocus properly and still take (blurry) pictures, or an error message will stay on the screen and not allow you to take any pictures.

The L12 has been discontinued from Nikon's lineup and for good reason: There are much better options in this price range with superior features and specs, such as Panasonic's LZ6/LZ7 and Canon's A570IS.

Very Unimpressed.......2007-11-25

We bought this camera in May and it began having trouble with its lens cover closing in September. By October, it had become a real problem, but we were leaving on a trip with no time to get it fixed or replaced before we left. We took it to Nepal for a 24-day trek, and the lens cover stopped working at all about mid-way through the trip.

Another significant problem we had was that it went through batteries at the rate of almost 2 per day by the 1st week of the trip. I can't tell you how much of a problem this was. We brought home a huge pile of batteries to recycle, while all of our friends (who were using much bigger and more complex cameras) went through 1 to 2 sets of batteries each. This is a seriously flawed camera, and we will be returning it pronto.

Great Camera, takes a lot of juice.......2007-10-24

I bought this camera for my 15 year old son's birthday. He had done all the research and decided this was the best for the money. I agree. The 7.1 megapixels for $130.00 is great! The only thing we have not liked about the camera so far is that it goes through batteries really fast. We plan on getting some lithium rechargables. I would suggest the same for any one who wants this camera.

This is a very nice camera, it take very nice pictures, better pictures than my canon A560 that I used to have. It's very light, small, with a big screen, and high quality

The only thing that I don't like is that it takes its time to get ready for the next picture once you take one, the video takes some time to come back again on the screen.

Can't beat the price but needed modification to work well........2007-12-23

I bought this generic water proof bag for my Cannon PowerShot S50 instead of buying the $200 dollar Cannon waterproof case. The bag performed as advertised and kept the camera dry. However, because the bag is made to fit several models of camera, it does not fit the S50 well. As purchased it was impossible to center the camera lens inside the bag's lens cover. This resulted in one side of every picture being obstructed by the curved lens cover. To fix this I fabricated a rubber alignment washer that fits inside the lens cover and around the camera lens forcing the lens to be centered. With this modification I was able to take good underwater pictures during a recent Caribbean cruise.

Good product for the price........2007-12-09

Note: remember to test the case as mentioned in the manual, if it keeps tissues dry it should keep your camera dry.

The Good:
It is only $35
You get digital quality pictures instead of disposable quality
You can snap away and not worry about wasting film, then delete all the junky photos afterwards (because you will have a lot)
You can get some good pictures with a bit of luck.

The Bad:
The lens ring can become crooked and you will mess up pictures if you don't notice.
Plastic jog dials are impossible to use if your hands are at all wet, let alone trying to spin it while you are in the water and the camera is in a plastic sack!
The lcd viewfinder is useless, too much light while snorkeling..maybe if your camera has a big 3.1 screen it would improve visibility, but I doubt it.

Here is how I got mine to work...before going near water I slipped the camera into the DiCaPac and turned it on (you may not have to turn yours on so early if you have a pushbutton on, mine is a jog dial, so it is a must). As soon as I turned it on I switched off the viewfinder to conserve battery life and then turned it back on while in the water..essetially having the camera on the entire time.

I didn't take it scuba diving, so I can't say if it holds up to deeper depths. But for snorkeling and taking photos under waterfalls it was good. It works well to keep sand out of your camera on the shore as well (and you can see through the viewfinder on land by the way).

Overall I thought it was a great buy because a plastic case wasn't available for my older Kodak (DX4530) camera. Note I said older camera, as well as it worked it felt like a bit of a gamble and I don't know if I would have the nerve to try this with a higher end, newer camera.

not worth the risk.......2007-11-17

I purchased the dicapac for my snorkeling trip to Bonaire. When I performed the initial test as described in the manual, it only showed some humidity, but no leakage. I used the dicapac while snorkeling in the carribean for five days successfully, then on the sixth day, I noticed water in the corner of the dicapac while underwater. I took out my camera and completely dried the dicapac before trying again. On the swim back to my boat, the dicapac once again had water leakage to fill up one corner of the bag. My digital camera has not worked since this incident. I am in the process of returning the Dicapac. The quality of the pictures were no better than a one time use underwater camera, especially since it was hard to see the LCD screen underwater to verify you actually got the picture you wanted. I'll be buying a pentax optio w30 or an olympus 770SW for my next snorkeling trip. Don't risk putting your digital camera in the dicapac.

"Great product at a great price.......2007-10-18

I was looking to purchase an underwater camera for a Dolphin swim my daughter and I were attending. I found that it was not worth the price for one day. I did not want to use a disposable camera, the quality is just not as good. I came across this product while looking at cameras and decided to try it. I could not have been more happy with the results. I used my expensive Sony digital camera in the pouch and it never once got a drop of water on it. My pictures turned out great and my camera is just fine. GREAT PRODUCT!! If fact, I had many people at the event ask me about this product because they had seen me using it and could see what it could do. Highly recommended!!!!

Worked Great For Me!.......2007-07-02

I just spent a week in St. Croix USVI and took a lot of snorkeling photos. When I recieved the case I was a little skeptical. This is basically a heavy duty zip lock bag with a glass lens. After a week of use, it is still going strong. I took several shots at 20 feet deep with no leakage. I was very pleased with the pictures. It is a bit hard to use as you are working the camera through a baggy, but hey, the hard plastic case is $170!

So, overall, no complaints. This bag should work for you, but I would definately test it at home first. I stuffed it with paper towels, and put mine in a big pot of water for a couple of hours, no leaks. It was a little tight with my Canon A95, but it did fit. Make sure your camera lens lines up with the baggie lens. I was careful not to strech the zip lock.

The case is very big; The case is very thick and almost fit two cameras S500 inside.It is very uncomfortable.
I have to buy another case.This is not a multi reference case. I'm disapoinment.I can't return the case because I live in Bogotá Colombia.
