Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX8K 5MP Digital Camera with 3x Image Stabilized Optical Zoom (Black)

Product Description

Incomparably styled for comfort and appearance, the Lumix DMC-FX8 is really compact ((H x W x D) 1.99'' x 3.7'' x 0.95''), lightweight (about 4 ounces), and comes with a Leica 3x Zoom lens for taking superior images. It can take still pictures at up to 5 megapixel resolution and movies at up to 640x480 VGA, with sound. Will the pictures be sharp? Many images blur due to normal hand shaking so this Lumix incorporates a built-in image stabilizer. It has a built-in gyrosensor that detects any hand movement and relays a signal to a tiny microcomputer inside the camera, which instantly calculates the compensation needed to assure sharp images. There are autofocus modes and several exposure modes for ease and creativity. A large, bright 2.5" LCD screen lets you preview and view all images. A built-in multimode electronic-flash opens photo opportunities in diverse lighting situations. The Lumix is a culmination of technology, science, and art. It conveniently fits your hand, your lifestyle, and your life. Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Small nice cammera with huge LCD.......2006-11-18

Nice cammera, the image stabilizator works great, could have a little bit more zoom.

2 out of 5 stars Nice convenient camera. But..........2006-10-01

I love the large LCD, ease of use and quality of pictures it takes. It is a nice all around digital camera. But why the low rating? Well, no matter how good the product is, with lack of proper support, it can become an obsolete device real fast.

Case in point, I have misplaced the battery charger somewhere and could not find it. Without battery charger, no power. Without power..well, the device is useless. To this date, I've searched all around for replacement charger including the original vendor, amazon.com, other internet vendors, panasonic the maker of this camera...replacement chargers simply do not exist either from the manufacturer (Panasonic) or generic. There aren't any universal chargers that support the battery of this camera either.

BTW, it hasn't been a total loss. I just found out that panasonic does now offer an AC adopter for this camera. But there's problem here also. The cost is $79. Yes..if you lose your charger, only alternative for you to be able to use this camera at all would be shelling out extra $79. The bigger problem is that there are no vendors who carry this device to date lol. So effectively, this camera is just a paperweight.

If you are a very careful person and you feel confident that you'll never lose the charger that camera comes with, I guess this camera is a good buy. If there's any inkling that you may after all lose the charger somehow, I think this camera should even be considered. Not just this camera..but the whole line of camera this one belongs to. By the way, during the research, I've found that there's very poor support for even other lines of panasonic d-cam. Beware..

5 out of 5 stars eazy and pretty.......2006-08-18

All I have too say is that the picture quality is really good, I was gonna get sony dscw70 but I didnt need the extra megapixels so I got this cheaper camera and it blew me away it's easy too use and takes clear pictures with good color. If u are getting this camera make sure u read the manual too know all the options for instance if u take picture using portrait mode it smooths out the skin tone so that u hardly see all the detail in the face like all ur moms wrinkles, yet still looks really crisp and ready too print out anyways I recommend this camera. oh yeah I work at circuitcity and they all recommended this camera because of its stabalizer if u got shaky hands this camera has a good stabalizer and oh yeah I got it for 139.99 at circuitcity with employee discount swweeeeettttt. battery life is pretty good 2.

4 out of 5 stars Great Compact Camera!.......2006-08-02

First - I am done with Sony. I have owned two CyberShots - the first (2003) was extremely compact and was excellent. My 2nd CyberShot (2006) died in less than 1 year, cost more than the Panasonic, and had less features. I don't know what happened over at Sony but they have fallen behind.

Now with Panasonic - they made the commitment that all of their cameras have image stabilzation at least a year ago. That was the #1 reason I looked at this model. The stabilization works really well - I have many more pictures that comoe out clear vs. a non-image stabilized camera. As stated in other reviews, image stabilization helps with a jittery hand - it won't compensate for large movements - but I will only buy cameras with this feature now.

Speed - Without the flash, this camera is very responsive and fast between pictures. There is also a setting to take a series of pictures by keeping your finger on the button. Very nice feature for capturing action sequences. With the flash, the camera is still pretty responsive, you just have to wait for the flash to recharge (performance is better than the Sony CyberShot).

Battery - The camera ships with a lithium battery and I have been getting 100-200 pictures (mix of flash) on it. Overall, I rate battery life high. Also, the battery recharges fairly fast - but I still purchased a spare.

Enginnering - The camera is compact but has a large LCD screen (I'm fine that it doesn't have a viewfinder) and it has a solild feel to it. I purchased the Lumix case for extra protection.

Picture Quality - With outside lighting, the quality is excellent. Inside, the quality is pretty high with good lighting or the flash. In lower lighting scenarios, you start to see some quality issues - but nothing out of the ordinary for a digital camera in this price range.

Overall, Panasonic has impressed me and in my opinion, has surpassed Sony - at least in the compact digital camera form factor.

5 out of 5 stars I like it, takes better pictures than my old sony cyber p43.......2006-07-16

I like this camera because its so compact, it looks very modern and is very light. It is also very easy to use, no software necessary to obtain pictures from the camera.
I have no problem with it. I dont expect a miracle in a digital camera.
A bit grainy on the white balance when maximum zoom level is used, aside from that I have no complaints.
I would like to watch Final Destination 3 again and try to ride a ferris wheel or something then use this camera. :)

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX7K 5MP Digital Camera with 3x Image Stabilized Optical Zoom (Black)

Amazon.com Product Description

Optics and Resolution
Featuring a 5-megapixel CCD sensor, the DMC-FX7 delivers a wide range of detail and color with images up to 2560 x 1920 pixels--enough information to make photo-quality prints up to 13 by 17 inches. Leica DC Vario-Elmarit 3x zoom lens, with 3 aspheric elements, combines comfortably small size with superb image rendering. By combining with a 4x digital zoom, users will have an equivalence of a 12x zoom lens in a very compact body, though users should note that digital zoom degrades picture quality.

Movie Mode
The DMC-FX7 lets you shoot QuickTime Motion JPEG video at resolutions up to 320 x 240 pixels with sound. The amount of video you can capture is limited by space on the memory card; you'll fit more at low quality (10 frames-per-second) than at high quality (30 frames-per-second). The movies aren't camcorder quality, but they're fun and convenient, and they're perfect as e-mail attachments. You can also record audio comments, up to five seconds in length, for your still pictures.

More Features

Storage and Transfer
Images and video are stored on Secure Digital (SD) memory cards. A 16 MB SD card is included. Files can be downloaded to either a Mac or PC via USB connectivity, which means it can be connected to any USB-based Windows 98/Me/2000/XP and Mac OS 8.6 or later computer without installing any software.

Printing
This camera supports the PictBridge standard. PictBridge is a technology that lets you transfer pictures from a digital camera to a compatible printer, without a PC or image-editing software. Because PictBridge is an industry standard, users can connect PictBridge-compatible devices made by many different manufacturers. Learn more about PictBridge.

Power and Size
The camera is powered by lithium-ion battery pack (included with charger). It measures 1.97 by 3.70 by 0.95 inches and weighs 0.30 pounds.

What's in the Box
DMC-FX7 digital camera, battery charger, battery pack, battery carrying case, 16 MB SD memory card, lens cap, lens hood with adaptor, A/V and USB cables, strap, and CD-ROM

Product Description

Get the picture? See for yourself with the 2.5" diagonal LCD monitor. You might be wondering why a camera that is only 3.7" wide has a 2.5" Diagonal Polycrystalline TFT LCD. Well, Panasonic not only wants you to get the picture, but also wants you to be able to see the picture as well. That's why the company dedicated almost two-thirds of the DMC-FX7K's back portion to the LCD screen. This high-quality, 114, 000-pixel display makes it easy to see what you're shooting. You can even boost the backlighting by 33% by pressing the Power LCD button when shooting outdoors on a sunny day.The DMC-FX7K has a built-in gyrosensor that detects any hand movement and relays a signal to a tiny microcomputer inside the camera, which instantly calculates the compensation needed. A linear motor then shifts the Optical Image Stabilizer lens as necessary to guide incoming light from the image straight to the CCD. You won't even notice it working - all you'll see are the outstanding results! The DMC-FX7K is not much wider than a standard business card, yet it puts an amazing 5-Effective Megapixel CCD and a 3x optical zoom right in your pocket. You can even use the 4x digital zoom1 together with the 3x optical zoom to enjoy up to 12x zoom power. Thanks to the high-performance Venus Engine II LSI, shutter release time lag is reduced to approximately 0.008 seconds and the shutter interval to only around 0.4 seconds2. This gives the DMC-FX7K a super-fast response that lets you snap off consecutive shots at 3 frames per second with full resolution. And the Unlimited Consecutive Shooting function3 allows unlimited consecutive shooting up to the capacity of the SD Memory Card in the camera - ideal for capturing fast-moving objects in high resolution.

5 out of 5 stars Daughter loves it........2007-01-16

This little camera is excellant for a teenager. Simple, easy to use. The only problem was the tiny memory cartridge it came with. No problems with it.

5 out of 5 stars Not all compact digital cameras are the same: Leica Lens.......2005-12-09

I agree with a lot of the things already said in the reviews, but just wanted to add that this is a great compact one to have as back-up to your more heavy duty digital or 35mm camera. I have always been a huge fan of Leica and the lens on the panasonic lumix models just can't be beat. Other manufacturers like Canon or Nikon may make smaller, cooler looking digital cameras, but the picture quality cannot be matched. I had a Panasonic Lumix DC40 (discontinued now) for a couple of years before buying this one, and knew the lens contributed a lot to the quality of my photos. When I began shopping for a more compact model, I couldn't pass up the opportunity to get one with Leica lens. Plus the image stablization system is unique to this line. For most people, 3 to 4 MB is plenty for picture quality but having 5 MB didn't hurt, of course. I compared this to Casio Exilim Z-50, which is also a good compact camera for average shoppers - took pictures of the same object and compared color, texture, depth, etc. - and you can tell clearly that Panasonic takes a more true-to-life, three dimensional colors. People often describe this as a negative factor, saying that Panasonic's color is less than vivid, but I would say this is because we are too familiar with electronically adjusted color schemes. In other words, Panasonic colors are what they are in nature. You can see more texture and depth to them because they are not overly saturated.

5 out of 5 stars This Camera is one of the best out there.......2005-10-18

I've used several (4 to be exact) Digital Cameras and This is the one that I actually like. I like it so much that I actually bought another one for my wife. The picture is good and screen is big and the battery is not bad. I'd recommend this product to anyone that's looking for a good DC!

5 out of 5 stars excellent quality photos and fast response.......2005-08-21

this camera is wonderful! i took back several digital point and shoots, simply because they were too slow. but this camera is very quick--you get the pic you planned on taking! the images are very crisp, thanks to this nice leica lens. the battery life is lower than i expected, but i have never been stuck without a camera because of it. the style and feel of this camera is awesome, and the viewscreen is excellent--i highly rec. this camera for a reliable point and shoot!

2 out of 5 stars Nice camera but GRAINY too often.......2005-07-18

I bought this camera months ago when it first came out. I am about to purchase another camera to replace it. I checked back here to see if any reviews validated my experience with this supposedly top knotch camera.

It's well designed, durable, and easy to use. The large display is great. Generally, photos taken outside come out great! Flash and battery are weak.

However, photos taken inside almost always come out grainy. I was sorely disappointed by this. It's so bad that I find myself now looking to replace the camera.

I owned several Canon cameras prior to this and they produced much better images in the -exact same- indoor shooting conditions. No grains.

One of the primary reasons I bought this camera was for its anti-shake technology. It was one of the first consumer point and shoot cameras to have it. It does work but it only takes the edge off. It also seems to increase the grainy factor.

This is a cool camera but I have to recommend that you look elsewhere. It's very disappointing.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-LS2 5 MP Digital Camera with 3x Image Stabilized Zoom

Amazon.com Product Description

When Panasonic digital technologies converged with Leica optical technologies, the result was the amazing Lumix line of digital cameras from Panasonic. The Panasonic Lumix DMC-LS2 5 MP Digital Camera with 3x Image Stabilized Zoom combines the best of optical and digital technologies in a single, high-performance camera.

For starters, the high-quality lens is made of seven elements in six groups, offering unmatched digital performance. The camera's high-performance 3x optical zoom can be extended up to 12x when combined with the camera's 4x digital zoom. Featuring Panasonic's MEGA O.I.S, or optical image stabilizer technology, the Lumix DMC-LS2 significantly reduces the jitters from shaky hands that is the source of the vast majority of blurred images. The camera's LSI Venus Engine Plus image processor reduces power consumption by up to 70 percent from previous models. This means that you can take up to 250 pictures with two AA batteries (included). (Optional alkaline batteries let you take about 155 photos, and Ni-MH batteries let you take about 400 photos.)

A high-angle mode makes the display extremely easy to view from a bottom angle--for example, when taking photos while raising a hand upward to shoot over the crowd. The large LCD allows the display of images even in tiny thumbnail size. Playback of 9, 16, and 25 images is possible on a multi-split screen in addition to the normal one frame playback. This helps you to search for the image you want out of a number of images stored on an SD Memory Card, even if the images are in bulk. With the DMC-LS2, you can snap off consecutive shots at three frames per second with full resolution. In addition, the Unlimited Consecutive Shooting function lets you continue shooting until the memory card or the built-in memory is full.

The Lumix DMC-LS2 also lets you take moving images at either 30 or 10 frames per second, and a white balance feature allows you to choose from five, preset, white balance settings: auto, daylight, cloudy, halogen, and white set. The PictBridge standard lets you print directly on a compatible digital printer. Print size, layout, date, and other settings can be made directly with the camera.

What's in the Box
Lumix DMC-LS2 digital camera, two Oxyride AA batteries, video cable, USB cable, strap, and software CD-ROM.

Product Description

Enjoy picture picture-perfection and a stylish design in this compact, powerful Lumix digital camera. Panasonic digital cameras help solve the problem of blurry images caused by unsteady hands, with advanced MEGA Optical Image Stabilizer (OIS) technology. A built-in gyrosensor detects any hand movement and relays a signal to a tiny microcomputer inside the camera, which instantly calculates the compensation needed. In a dark setting or when the subject is moving, shooting at a faster shutter speed is required for truly great results. That's why this digital camera offers a High Sensitivity Mode. When combined with OIS, this remarkable shooting mode allows you to shoot at up to ISO1600. And that means stop-action clarity in nearly any situation. 3 out of 5 stars Fuzzy and dark pictures.......2007-09-29

I have tried all the settings but my pictures are fuzzy and dark. I know how to use a camera, but my Kodak EasyShare that I had before (eventually broke after 2 1/2 years, which is normal for a digital camera) took crystal clear pictures with the correct light.

Took this on my trip to Greece and wish I had just bought another EasyShare.

5 out of 5 stars Great little camera for the price - wish I'd found it sooner!.......2007-06-11

This is my third digital camera. My first one (an Olympus D-340R) still works even if it's a "dinosaur" when compared to today's digital cameras. But I can no longer connect it to my computer (cable causes computer to reboot) and because it is so old I wanted to replace it ... or at least augment it with something newer. I also had an old Sony handicam. It also still works but... again.. it's old.. wanted something with newer technology. Last year I thought I had replaced both by buying a Samsung SC-D365, but I discovered that it doesn't have a flash and even in the brightest indoor light the still pictures were too dark. I wanted something on a par with my old Olympus, but didn't want to spend a lot of money since I'd already sunk quite a bit into the Samsung (which, btw takes okay outdoor pics/films). I started looking for something around $100.00 and finally stumbled on the Panasonic DMC-LS2. I read all the other owner reviews and was happy to see the majority gave it high marks. It sounded like just what I was looking for. What also helped at the time I bought it the price was just slightly over my $100 "looking range" ($130) and to sweeten the deal at that time, Amazon was also giving away 2 free memory cards to go with it. So, I've had it about a week and have been trying it out (and reading the manual). I was pleased to see that it was everything everyone's been saying and then some. I took a few pictures using just the camera's internal memory and was amazed at how clear and sharp they were. Took some really close up shots of one of my cats and could actually see each individual hair. Amazing that this little mid-range camera can take such clear shots. Of course, as I familiarize myself with it over time I will learn more about it's strengths (and weaknesses, if any), but so far it's exactly what I was looking for and I'm quite happy I found it.

I bought this camera as a birthday present. I was looking for a simple to use camera, so I pointed towards Kodak but found nothing to suit my taste. So I decided to try on Panasonic, and now I'm glad I did.

First of all, the camera is easy to use. Mostly point and shoot. However, if you have special needs, the special settings are very helpful. It has a long time exposure setting that allowed me to a picture a lightning scenery with high detail . However, a tripod is a must if you want to enjoy this feature.

Batteries? I used the Oxyride batteries that came included. Used them to set the camera up, fool around a little and take about 150 pictures and maybe 20 minutes of video without flash. At least, it is not a battery eater when used with the oxyride batts.

More goodies: of course. The camera is quick to start up, pictures easy to review and manipulate and the stabilization system really does work. Also, you can take this camera out of the bag and start using it without even looking at the instructions manual. However, I recommend reading it to fully understand some functions.

The down side? Well, I have to say this: the videos are only recorded in QVGA (320 x 240) and they will have no sound.

5 out of 5 stars great little camera.......2007-04-12

I bought this camera for my 16 year old granddaughter and she just loves it. The pics are bright and clear and the camera is very easy to handle.

5 out of 5 stars Digital camera.......2007-03-14

As soon as I got the camera I could tell it was a good one by the instruction manual. I'm still reading and learning how to us it. My husband and I enjoy trying out the different features and we'er pleased with the pictures we've taken. We highly recommend this camera to both a novis and the more experience photographer.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX8S 5MP Digital Camera with 3x Image Stabilized Optical Zoom (Silver)

There are autofocus modes and several exposure modes for ease and creativity. A large, bright 2.5" LCD screen lets you preview and view all images.

    Amazon.com Product Description

Featuring a 5-megapixel CCD sensor, the DMC-FX7 (in black finish) delivers a wide range of detail and color with images up to 2560 x 1920 pixels--enough information to make photo-quality prints up to 13 by 17 inches. The Leica DC Vario-Elmarit 3x zoom lens, with 3 aspheric elements, combines comfortably small size with superb image rendering.

    Product Description

You might be wondering why a camera that is only 3.7" wide has a 2.5" Diagonal Polycrystalline TFT LCD. This high-quality display makes it easy to see what you're shooting. You can even boost the backlighting by 33% by pressing the Power LCD button when shooting outdoors on a sunny day.Jitter from shaky hands is one of the main reasons why cameras produce blurry images. That's why Lumix cameras help solve the problem of unsteady hands with advanced MEGA Optical Image Stabilizer technology. The DMC-FX7 has a built-in gyrosensor that detects any hand movement and relays a signal to a tiny microcomputer inside the camera, which instantly calculates the compensation needed. A linear motor then shifts the Optical Image Stabilizer lens as necessary to guide incoming light from the image straight to the CCD. You won't even notice it working - all you'll see are the outstanding results! The DMC-FX7 is not much wider than a standard business card, yet it puts an amazing 5-Effective Megapixel CCD and a 3x optical zoom right in your pocket. You can even use the 4x digital zoom together with the 3x optical zoom to enjoy up to 12x zoom power. Thanks to the high-performance Venus Engine II LSI, shutter release time lag is reduced to approximately 0.008 seconds and the shutter interval to only around 0.4 seconds. This gives the DMC-FX7 a super-fast response that lets you snap off consecutive shots at 3 frames per second with full resolution. And the Unlimited Consecutive Shooting function allows unlimited consecutive shooting up to the capacity of the SD Memory Card in the camera - ideal for capturing fast-moving objects in high resolution.

    Product Description

The LEICA DC VARIO-ELMARIT lens on the DMC-LC80 follows in the Leica tradition of excellence. Although it is small in size, it has a large, bright aperture, meeting Leica's stringent quality standards. A Leica multi-coating process applied to the lens helps to prevent the fogging caused by flare, and ghosts that can result from excessive light. Even enlarged images captured by the DMC-LC80 are crisp and clear - right to the edges. At just 3.44" wide, about the width of a standard business card (but thicker), the DMC-LC80 puts a 5-Effective Megapixel CCD and a 3x optical zoom right in your pocket. You can even use the 3x digital zoom together with the 3x optical zoom to enjoy up to 9x zoom power. The DMC-LC80 can be powered by two AA alkaline or two rechargeable nickel-metal hydride (Ni-MH) batteries. You can take about 160 photos with two alkaline batteries and they take up a lot less room in your camera bag. Since you can find alkaline batteries almost any anywhere, it's easy to pick up some spares when the power starts running low.MEGA BURST Consecutive Shooting feature allows you to take successive pictures at an incredibly quick rate, making it ideal for capturing fast-moving objects in high resolution. You can then view your shots on the camera's LCD screen to choose the ones you like and delete the rest.

    Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars There are other cameras than the Elph....boy are there ever!.......2004-10-02

I just bought this camera and have not used it a lot yet but was very happy with it, so much so, that I wrote a review before I fully explored everything this camera was capable of. From my experience so far I am extremely impressed at the quality of the pictures and the cost per megapixel, seeing that you are getting a Leica lens with this camera.....and I am amazed that the Lumix line is not more popular than it is. I upgraded to this camera from a Canon Elph because of a number of things. First was the fact that this is the only camera name in the market with the best lens(Leica) in the world. Everything else(ie. all of the bells and whistles) are secondary to the quality of a camera lens, since this is what ultimately affects a pictures quality. I have taken several pictures of mundane things such as the side of a building just to test out the clarity of the picture and the richness of the colors. What would have been over or underexposed with my Elph much of the time comes in incredibly well with this camera.

This camera also is instant on and is ready to snap when you push the button down. People who have had other cameras know this is not always the case. Controls and user interface are also very intuitive. You will not spend much time, if any, with your nose in the manual. And it is **very small**.....I had no idea it would be as small as it is. One thing to note is the battery types that can be used; this camera only accepts alkaline and Ni-Mh, so don't try NiCd or any other type of batteries. This was another reason for my upgrade as I often travel to remote places where recharging a battery is possible. AA batteries are available in any corner of the world.

So far, I am extremely pleased with the quality of the pictures and the many functions the camera has, most of which I have not even tried, such as the animation mode. Perhaps I will update this review as I learn what this camera is truly capable of.
All in all, I think one cannot go wrong with this camera. The cost per megapixel is astounding; there are lesser cameras costing much more. One more thing: transfer time with the cable is speedy....I am rethinking how necessary a card reader really is. The Lumix line has made a convert out of me.

Edit: I have uploaded some pictures taken with the LC-80, and wanted to add some comments on the design of the camera.....it is a brilliant design. One of the small things(which is not so small to me) is the fact that when you move the lever to zoom in, the lens stops and pauses when it reaches the end of the optical zoom(3X), before it continues zooming on to a maximum of 9X through the digital zoom. This is basically the camera asking the user: "are you sure you want to proceed and risk image degradation with the digital zoom?" Just a brilliant design.

The one downside I could see with this package would be the software. It comes with Ulead software which does virtually everything you could want it to(even adds sound to pictures if you want), but one thing it does not do(at least Ihave not found it), is to make a panorama out of multiple pictures. This was included with the Elph, and is something I will continue to use in the future. This is **Very minor** though when looking at the whole package, which is fantastic.
