Great little scope.......2007-12-20
I went to a few outfitter type store to look at monoculars and this one stood out as the best combination of magnification, field of view, and brightness. And in something that is the size of a film canister that costs about $25. Great to keep in your pocket on a hike or in your car's glove box.
Compact and practical for the hiker.......2007-12-13
Generally impressed by the reviews, I bought this in Oct 2007 for $19.50. I've brought it along hiking trips and it has lived up to expectations -- durable construction, easy to carry, and clear optics. My only complaint is that the strap does not thread through the scope easily. Overall, a very well-priced, useful scope.
great little pocket scope and exceptional price.......2007-08-10
this little gem is incredible for what you get for such a low price. I replaced another rei generic scope with this one and am glad I made the switch. i will continue to buy brunton products as they are built very well and are simple in design and to operate.
Good monocular.......2007-06-14
What can I say??
It's Jack Bauer's monocular...
Well, have on con, needed stay still to use it, and this is a little difficult to do, besides that, it's great monocular.
Satisfactory monocular.......2007-03-23
This product met my expectations for a monocular priced under $30, except the close focus wasn't quite as close as advertised. Instead of 13 inches, it is more like 15-16 inches, but it focuses very smoothly and is free of major defects or optical aberrations.

Customer Reviews:
Rangefinder dissappointing.......2007-05-13
I expected that the rangefinder would consistently give me a correct distance to the flag. Instead it often gives two or three different readings varying as much as one hundred yards. By using my common sense I can eliminate the 234 yard reading and settle on the 94 yard reading if I know I am around 100 yards out. Friends with the laser rangefinders that reflect off the flags that are so equipped, and friends with older model Bushnell rangefinders do not seem to have this problem. I tried to return this product but was told I could not because I did not have the original packaging. Conclusion: disappointing product and unacceptable return policy.
Rangefinder.......2007-05-13
Good Device and simple to use.
Beyond 150 yards it is difficult to get a yardage indication from the flag.
Inside 150 its dead on.
From yardages beyond 150 yards the device is accurate when viewing grass, bunkers, trees etc.
Makes the game a lot easier.......2007-01-17
The only trouble with this product is that it is very hard to pick up the flag from any distance. You generally have to use a trap (or a person on the green) to get distance to the flag. Otherwise, we've found this a very useful and easy to use tool.
Bushnell Yardage Pro Tour Laser Rangefinder.......2007-01-15
Excellent. Upgraded from Yardage Pro 400. This one is so small. Much more convenient than the 400. This one just clips on your bag. Works better as well. Even picks up those flags that are just hanging there on a overcast, windless day. The scan feature is nice to verify that you are zoning in on the proper target.
Critique.......2007-01-11
After 2 or 3 tries, I usually get the distance to the flag. However, it often picks up larger items behind the flagstick. I like the fact that I can measure to other items other than the flag (such as bunkers and water hazards.)

Poor optics.......2007-12-21
After much research, I ordered this Monarch 10x42 and got it today. After 15 minutes of evaluation, I shipped it back. The optics were really not what I expected from Nikon and for $250+ I paid for. As soon as I opened the package, I took it out - it was bright and sunny. I focused on the tree twigs with sunlight coming in from the back. I saw a purple halo on one side and yellow-orange on the other. The chromatic aberration was awful. I had my '91 Bushnell Powerview 7x35 for comparison - it faired far far better than this Nikon! I am sticking with my cheap Bushnell for my birding at least for now.
Awesome Views!.......2007-09-10
A bang for every buck! And not a lot of bucks!! ;) When we're in the high sierra looking for big bucks to put in our trucks.
good buy worth the money.......2007-06-20
I use the binoculars for birding and wildlife viewing and find the performance of 10x42 to be very good. Previously I have only used close focus glasses for observing butterflies (Pentax papillo) so it is difficult to compare. The nikons are very compact, bright and sharp. I first used them on a trip to Canada birding in the rain for several days straight. There were many birds, due to fallout, and birds were easily identified within shaded cedar trees in the cloudy drizzle. No problems. I was very happy with them since my non-water proof pentax binoculars would have fogged-up and wrecked.
I am aware that the 10x42 are not as well rated as the 8x42 but the extra magnification in the 10x42 is not too much of a sacrifice.
Not happy butterfly.......2007-03-14
These Binoculars came very highly rated, they would not focus right out of the box. Had no trouble with refund.
Great mid-range binocs.......2007-01-24
I have really enjoyed these binoculars. We were looking for a good pair for watching the wildlife near our house (not the neighbors). We also wanted a set that was compact enough we could take to theater events if we had cheaper seats. The Nikon Monarchs serve both purposes very well.
The clarity is super close to the much more expensive models and the feel of the binocs and the adjustments are really nice.
Great choice. I dropped a star only because the Amazon price was higher than the price at a local Omah, NE store.
Update -- I recently took my binocs to a Joshua Bell concert and can attest these glasses work very well in low light / theater light.

The built-in dioptric correction adjusts for individual eyesight so everyone can use the binocular to its full potential. ExcellentGlasses.......2007-07-13
I purchased a pair of these binoculars about 1 1/2 yrs ago, and frequently use them for birdwatching out my office window. At about the same time I tested several (5) much more expensive birding binoculars, and also purchased a pair of Zeiss 8x42 Victory TFL, $1400 (best in the world) for serious birding. So I'm well qualified to judge. These Olympus binoculars have astounding performance for thier price. Of course the small 25 mm objective lens does not provide top-notch dim light performance, and they are not waterproof. But given normal lighting conditions, their performance is excellent. Resolution and color fidelity are excellent, and chromatic aberration is small. Overall the optical quality is superior to any roof-prism binocular under $700 that I have tried. You really cannot go wrong with these.
EXCELLENT BANG FOR BUCK.......2004-07-19
It's a little difficult to tell from pictures on a website, but this piece is very sleek and light-weight. Its short range ability was the best among those that I tried, which means you can use these inside your house just as comfortably as outdoors. It houses a pre-built photochromatic anti-glare lens so you're protected from being stung by those stray sun rays. The focusing is sharp and swift unlike many others on the market. Olympus knows their optical onions. Unless you're looking for something more heavy-duty (in which case take a look at 'Bushnell powerview 16x50 wide-angle'), I highly recommend the Porro Prism especially because Amazon seems to be offering very aggressive deals on it.

Customer Reviews:
I love it, works good for money gen 1.......2007-10-26
I got one of this and I really love, its not the best one, you know, but for the price, I paid $91.00 used one. But it works very good out side, in closed area the bright light can really be unpleasant for your eyes. but you really can see in complete darkness so that is the point of the IR. I can see a clock against wall in my living room im complete darkness at 24 four feet. And the diopter has very good focus, very clear picture. This one is better than Yukon NVMT 4x50mm gen 1st (Mfr#24027) because I bought both and returned the Yukon.
Night Owl Optics.......2007-03-09
The Night Owl Optics monocular had a major flaw as soon as I started using it. The system uses high voltage derived from 2-AA bateries. Occationally the unit would create a large snap(arcing noise) and emit a bright flash of light from the eyepiece. If one is using the instrument, the light actually hurts the eye. I have returned the monocular to Night Owl for repairs. I do not know the result of the repairs as it is still in transit. They told me to ship it at my expense.
Another strange requirement of the instrument is that the batteries are recommended to be removed if not used for 24 hours.
Other than the above, the monocular has performed well.
epilogue-Night Owl Optics did repair the unit and returned it.
Night Owl 3.1x.......2007-01-15
Not bad, on the whole, for watching wildlife in the dark. Good illumination and nice balance between magnification, field of view, and use w/o a tripod. Sharpness falls off at the edges of the viewing area. I could recommend this to wildlife watchers who might be considering their first night-vision device. Since this was my first, I have no comparative information on whether there might be better ones out there.
It's really what they offer.......2006-11-14
Hello, I'm glad with this product, I haven't try it yet outside my house but in a really dark condition it works pretty well, I need to turn on the IR button and clearly I can read even a sign on a bottle in total darkness. this thing really works
Not useful.......2006-11-10
I bought this item over a year ago, and it has never served for anything. Once I spotted a deer and turned on the "IR" illuminator, and the deer ran away - not too surprising, it is actually a red light and totally visible for most animals. Better use a flashlight. This is a first-generation nightscope, and has a very small range of utility: If there is a little light, the adapted human eye sees better, and if there is almost no light the device does not see either. 100 bucks is not too much of a waste, but if you are serious about nightvision you should spend about 10 times as much.

Customer Reviews:
Not a bad gadget.......2007-08-20
I would give this 3 and half stars. I received one of these as a free gift, so free is good. I wouldn't advise paying full retail price else you may be disappointed. After reading the horrible reviews, I debated opening the box when it arrived. What I found best for all software which comes in the box, never open the CD! If you have any other OS, other than Win98, then just plug it in to a USB port and the camera memory will appear as a disk drive. You do NOT need and do not want the software which comes in the box. This is true for any digital camera.
As binoculars go, this pair isn't bad. It's small, rubberized, has a focus and rubber eye cups. Chromatic distortion is slight, good sharpness and detail, although there is some fogginess around the outside of the field of view. The built-in camera is a toy by all accounts. Bird watching? I think not. My suggested use is to collect evidence of the neighbor's dog going through your garbage or of a suspicious car parked across the street. It's good for what I use it for.
Really fun to own!.......2007-03-13
This camera binocular is great! Good magnification, light weight, with fantastically fun software! Comes with everything you need to take, save and edit photos.
Would have given it 5 stars but it is a little hard to hold the camera still while snapping a picture because the button is on top. Same with focusing, a little difficult for the same reason. All in all, it was a great buy, shipped fast to Hawaii, and a welcomed addition to our camera/binocular collection. Can't wait to use it in Yellowstone!
He'd love it if he used it.......2007-01-20
Got this for my hubby for Christmas. Someday maybe he'll decide to use it...he is technophobic! I think it's a great idea for the things we love to do...eagle watching, canyon trips, Hawaii...etc. If he doesn't use it I will! To be able to look through binoculers and then snap the picture seems like an excellent mating of old and new technololgy.
Garbage for photos.......2006-07-07
Complete crap. The installation as mentioned in many other reviews was next to impossible. I bought my mother this before she went on a trip to Alaska, thinking she could bring some nice close up shots to complement her other digital camera shots. But that was not the case, after spending hours trying to get it installed on XP the files were not even the right format. The picture quality was horrible. This product is a joke, I wish I could get my money back, the only good thing about it is that the binoculars work. Better off just buying a pair of those, skip this product and save yourself a headache.
Get what you pay for.......2006-07-01
The camera with this unit was hardly worth it the low cost. The optics are fine for the price, but built in camera was useless. Unable to obtain a clean shot. I brought it to try this out in the back yard and take some pictures. I figured if I like it I would invest in a more expensive model. In hindsight I should have just saved my money and buy a better model. Buyer beware!!!

Good for wildlife viewing. High quality lenses........2007-08-13
Our relative has an old pair of this Bushnell 7X35 Wide Angle Perma Focus Binocular which they use to view wildlife and track sources of wildfire in Wyoming mountains. We've been searching for a good quality binocular with affordable price. We're glad to have tried this and think this is the one. The focus-free design is great for glasses wearers. Durable design with good quality potics, perfect for wildlife or theater performance.
Awesome set for such a great price!.......2005-10-05
Not all of the Permafocus Binoculars are this good, but these are fantastic. If you tire easily of adjusting the focus, you won't believe your eyes when you look through these. I have used these on the lake, baseball games and on the golf course. My son dropped a pair on the concrete and misaligned one lens. Luckily I had already purchased another pair and just had to return to the car to get them. I am writing this review because I am looking to buy yet another pair.
Buy and enjoy! You'll be glad you did! Besides, for this price, what have you got to lose??

Butterfly Binoculars-Super Close Range.......2007-12-03
These are very special for viewing close-ups while sitting on your patio or deck, or walking the forest. They act like a microscope, are super bright, and can focus on flowers, insects, hummingbirds, and butterflies within inches!! No others have this super close-up abilities...
Nice and Compact.......2007-08-26
Good quality view. I find the price a bit high considering the limited capability of these binoculars. The image quality is good but the magnification is limited for celestial work. For terrestrial viewing my kids love them. My kids find them easy to hold but a bit fiddly to focus. My kids like the "cool" shape of them. Overall a pretty decent value.
Good product, good seller, crappy deliverer..........2006-12-06
First, I am a very beginner to binoculars, so I don't have anything to commment on spec matter. I just received the item from the seller(OneCall). It was promptly shipped via overnight.
When I first tried the binocular, I was impressed. I ordered this binocular for mainly indoor use, and it fit my need perfectly. Although I have some complaints about design of the carrying case, I am overall satisfied with the item.
Now, THE PROBLEM is the FedEx. The FedEx delivery driver left the package at the wrong door! I live in apartment complex, and each door has label of unit number written nicely in Arabic numerals. There was also my unit number clearly printed on the package's address label, and he still left the package in front of wrong door. What a joke. Couldn't he read even Arabic numerals? How did he find his job!?
Excellent Binocular for the price.......2006-02-24
I have very limited experience using binoculars, but we are going on a cruise to Alaska this spring and felt that we should get some. I studied up on all my options and picked these due to size (they are very compact for the power) and other reviews that I read.
I tried them out in my yard watching squirrels build a nest in a tree far out in the woods. They are fantastic. I could clearly see all the activity during the nest building. I wear glasses and these presented no problems.
I would recommend them to the novice, although I am sure there are better these will meet my needs exactly.
Excellent general-purpose compact with a twist..........2006-02-21
This binocular does indeed focus down to about a foot-and-a-half, far closer than any other binocular I know of. This makes it essential equipment for: art museums, biological fieldwork, any situation where you want to get closer to things you cannot simply GET closer to.
Excellent clarity, as to be expected from a top-line Japanese optical company (as clear as Nikon, for example). Bright enough for the purpose, has diopter (on right, I think), and adjustable for both those who wear eyeglasses and those who do not. They fit my weird, astigmatic, spectacled peepers quite well.
And...they are very reasonably priced. A no-brainer. See Rembrandt's brushstrokes up close! Buy them now. It is the right thing to do. :-)
