Go anywhere pocket size camera.......2007-12-26
This is a awesome little camera, easy to use, well designed.
It takes awesome photos outdoors. Does great indoors with good lighting.
Best part is it water proof. We take it to the pool, kayaking, boating...
Nice size, fits in your pocket. We got lots of good photos since we always have it us!
Great camera.......2007-12-21
Great pictures, great interface, many nice features. To have all this in a waterproof, dustproof case is an outdoorsmans dream. I take it everywhere.
Buyer Beware!.......2007-12-21
We bought this camera a few months ago, prior to a recent Carribean vacation. It's definitely slower and noisier than I expected, but it has some decent features, so we could live with the camera's limitations. HOWEVER, the camera leaked badly the third time we took it snorkeling. It started with water noticeable behind the LCD, and by the time I got the camera cleaned up, it was a goner. Completely dead. Please understand, we're exceedingly careful with our cameras. We actually have an underwater housing for a Canon Powershot that we've used dozens of times. I peruse the manual every time I use it, and always use the product in accordance with the instructions and recommendations. Same with the Pentax Optio. I read the manual three times before using it. In other words: Not my fault. The camera was defective. So now I'm off to attempt an exchange - for a different camera.
My recommendation if you want an underwater camera - buy a good Canon or other make and shell out the big bucks for an underwater housing. If you use a housing carefully, and clean it properly before and after each use, it'll serve you well.
Pentax Optio W30.......2007-12-18
I purchased this little camera as a replacement/upgrade for the Pentax Optio 33WR that I've been using on fishing/kayaking trips over the last 4 years. The W30 will do anything that the 33WR was able to do, but does it better.
It's a very user friendly camera, that one doesn't have to worry about getting wet. This little camera takes great photos in most situations.
Pros
small & light
takes great photos
does a good job when taking macro photos
is water-proof to 10'
Cons
it's a little noisy at ISO's over 200
do not touch this camera.......2007-12-11
I bought this camera for a holiday in the Caribbean. After using it for 20 minutes in shallow water, it failed. I returned it to Pentax who (eventually) claimed the warranty was void because it had sand on the battery cover which has compromised the waterproofing. This is nonsense. How it could have worked under water with sand on the battery cover was beyond the Pentax technicians ability to explain. Also, the possibility that any sand on the battery cover had lodged there after the camera failed was also too much for the Pentax customer service (an oxymoron if ever there was one) to explain.
So, lousy camera and even worse customer service.
Product Description
The Pentax K10D Digital SLR features an array of Pentax innovations including 10.2 effective Megapixels and a Pentax-developed Shake Reduction (SR) system that effectively offers a 2.5 to 4 stop advantage for sharp, blur-free images even under difficult shooting conditions, such as macro and telephoto photography or low light settings without a flash. Also featured is a newly developed Pentax Real IMage Engine (PRIME) designed exclusively for Pentax digital SLR cameras to produce well-balanced, true-to-life images. Pentax also incorporated a new high performance 22-bit A/D converter to quickly transfer images with accurate color tones and richer gradation from the CCD to the imaging engine. The new Dust Removal (DR) system incorporating Pentax-original Special Protect (SP) coating helps keep the CCD surface dust-free, and adds a shift mechanism to shake dust off the CCD. All this is housed in a dependable dust-proof, weather-resistant body construction featuring 72 seals throughout the camera to allow photographers to continue shooting even in dusty or rainy environments. Power Source - Rechargeable D-LI50 Lithium-ion battery, Optional AC adapter System Requirements - Mac OS 10.2 or later, PowerPC G4 minimum, Windows 2000, XP, Pentium 4, 2 GHz recommended, 512MB RAM, 1024x768 graphics, 250MB hard drive, standard equipped USB port Dimensions - 5.6 x 4.0 x 2.8 inches (141.5x 101 x 70mm) Weight - 25.0 ounces (710 grams)

The centrepiece of a superb SLR system.......2007-12-27
Not much to add to everything that's been said already; killer DSLR with excellent features and image quality. In capable hands it will produce output as good as anything else in its class and at the same time, like the rest of the Pentax lineup, offers stunning value and some unique features. You can tell it's been designed by photographers, for photographers.
A photographer's camera.......2007-12-27
The Pentax K 10d is the winner in DSLR cameras aimed for amateur photographers looking for quality equipment at less than $1000. Pentax has hit the sweet spot with the K10d offering features found in cameras costing more than $1000. Since I have a Nikon N80, it's the film version of the D80,I seriously considered the D80. But even with my Nikon lenses I still saved over $200 with the Pentax plus I don't have to spend extra for the Nikon imaging program for RAW files. The D80 doesn't have a sensor cleaner or shake reduction built into the camera body. I have been using the Pentax for about a month and find that it's a photographers camera. Controls that you use for taking pictures are dials on the camera body not menus. You can look through the viewfinder to make changes and not have to stop and scroll through a menu found on other brands. I would also recommend buying the Pentax AF360 or 540 flash.
The competition among camera companies is fierce and the consumer is in the drivers seat. You really can't go wrong with any DSLR. I looked at other brands besides Nikon. Cannon and Sony make great cameras but you really have to put the camera in your hand, take pictures and see which camera is comfortable for you. It should be an extension of your eye and you should be able to work the controls intutively.
Love this camera!!.......2007-12-27
I bought this camera because I have an older Pentax 35mm SLR that I love.
So far this camera has lived up to my expectations. I can swap lenses between my 35mm and this camera and it works a lot like my 35mm. There are a lot of features that I still have to learn, but my first impression is that I will love this camera as much as the 35mm I have had for almost 8 years plus I will have the advantages of no film to buy or be developed. I am already hooked on this digital camera and hopefully I can take a photography class at some point so I can use it more effectively.
Excellent Product - Great implementation.......2007-12-26
Impressive camera with a price that cannot be beaten. The fact that you can use any Pentax lens ever made is fantastic. Having been a Pentax customer for 25 year I certainly appreciate it. The only weak feature is the built in flash. I find it almost unusable for pictures just few feet away so plan to invest in an add-on flash. Standard Battery life is very good and you can find a replacement for few dollars on the internet for some extra shots. Overall an excellent product made by a company that cares about its customers. Buy it with the confidence that you will not regret it.
awsome camera.......2007-12-25
I bought this digital camera for my husband. This fit the bill. You are able to do so many different projects with this camera. This camera is enterchangeable with all his lens that he had already aquired for an automatic/manual Pentax camera. He is so pleased with this camera and everthing that it can do.

Works Great, easy setup on XP.......2007-12-28
Product arrived on time and setup was easy and so far I have scanned 800 pictures and have had no problems, Color is good on scanned Images so I am pleased.
Excellent.......2007-12-26
The scanner is excellent for use in scanning medical documents. It can be positioned at the edge of the desk to scan and fall into a box for shredding. We bought two. Saves us from storage.
Does the job as advertised........2007-12-26
I bought this product to scan receipts for expense reports while traveling. Installation and calibration were straight-forward and took less than 10 minutes. The only three things on my wish list would be for the software to remember the chosen resolution for subsequent scans, a slightly larger case to more easily store the cord with the scanner, and for the ability to change the background color as, unless you place the items on paper, the background comes out black. Good choice otherwise.
Not very Mac friendly.......2007-12-24
I bought this because it said it was Mac compatible. While their are drivers on the Pentax web site for Mac OSX, those drivers don't seem to work with any of the programs that come with a Mac. Mac has several programs that can use Twain acquire which is the type of driver this comes with, but the twain driver doesn't work with any of those programs. I've heard some people say it works with Microsoft Word, but who wants to scan with Word, plus I don't own Word. It works great in Photoshop, but that's an expensive program if you don't already have it. So if you don't have Word or Photoshop, you may not have much luck with this scanner on a Mac. I don't know why they can't get it working with Image Capture which is what I use for my other two scanners.
Aside from this, the size is great. I can even carry it with me while traveling. In Photoshop, it's got decent speed and the scans look good. I mostly scan documents with this scanner so I can't judge it for photographic scanning.
Hopefully Pentax will get the Mac driver on par with what they say works in Windows. But even without that, it's size makes it awesome if you need something portable and you own Photoshop or MS Word.
Fantastic.......2007-12-23
Having had a similar scanner before (BAFO Travelscan), I have good evidence for comparison. (the Travelscan became useless due to my upgrade(?) to a new laptop with Vista.) The Pentax installed effortlessly and the scans are of very good quality for an inexpensive mobile scanner; the scanner packs easily for travel to my various offices. It feeds nicely except for letters which have been folded; you need to smooth out the folds prior to insertion. I am particularly impressed with the PDF software providing a searchable file for my lab reports, operative notes, etc. Highly recommended.

Grainy indoor pictures.......2007-12-12
I bought this camera from a saleswoman who really sounded like she knew what she was talking about. She said that it was simply the best point and shoot camera on the market. I bought the storyline and made the purchase without going to other stores, professionals, or reading online reviews.
I thought the functionality of the camera was wonderful. However, when I printed out the pictures all of the indoor ones looked extremely grainy. The outdoor pictures were bright and clear but nothing from indoors. It was also difficult to get a picture that wasn't blurry.
I took the camera back and bought a Sony W90. I took similar photos (with similar objects, light etc.) and printed the pictures. Sony was clearly the better camera.
I would not recommend this camera. The functionality is great but the quality of the pictures is poor.
Great travel camera!.......2007-12-12
I have had a number of good point and shoot digitals and enjoyed them, but hated the lag time. This camera all but does away with that! I even took sports shots of my grandkids and got the "on the move!"
I like the shake reduction feature because I was shooting in low light a lot of times and needed it. Also, the night time and closeup features worked much better than my old Pentax, even though it was a great camera.
My only complaint is that in high light it is impossible to see the image on the screen, and I discovered immediately that I could not take vertical pictures with my sunglasses on because they are polarized.
Otherwise, it's a great little camera!!
Great Camera.......2007-12-11
I had been searching for a camera with more zoom,I was hoping for at least 10, but all the cameras I looked at were so big. I came upon the
Pentax and decided to give it a try. Could not be happier, this camera is
so easy and having the lense covered is great. Can carry in my purse or pocket. 7x zoom is plenty for me at this stage of my picture taking. Don't hesitate on buying this camera!!!!!
If you like picture noise, buy the Pentax Optio Z10.......2007-12-01
This camera has speed settings from ISO 64 to 3200. Of these, only 64 and 100 are acceptable. In bright scenes you will get a picture with good detail and color and a small amount of noise. Even at these low settings, a slightly magnified image will show noise as a speckling in the image. I made a mistake buying this camera - somehow misunderstanding its characteristics before I bought it. If you do not believe me, then read the professional reviews, such as at http://www.digitalcameratracker.com/pentax-optio-z10/
The good - It's compact, has a 7x optical zoom, has a nice screen, easy to use controls, and takes adequate movies.
The bad - It takes low quality noisy pictures, it has no image stabilization. Pentax claims it has image stabilization, but what they really do is increase the ISO level, reduce the exposure time, and greatly increase the noise level. You will get this effect whenever you take zoom pictures, except in the brightest of sunlight.
My recommendation: Do not buy this camera! If you want a small high zoom camera that takes good movies, but has better noise characteristics, look at the very similar looking Casio with real image stabilization. Pentax certainly could do better.
A MASTERPIECE.......2007-11-03
This really is a remarkable camera. The moving-mirror zoom is one of those ideas which makes you wonder why nobody did not think of it and implement it sooner and works well. Picture quality is impressive and the quality of the colour is fantastic. And all at a very reasonable price.

Awesome little camera.......2007-12-26
Bought this for my daughter for Christmas. She is a single mom & wanted something that wouldn't be a hassel to lug around but still have photos that turn out well. It is lightweight, compact and takes beautiful photos. Takes very nice video's as well. So easy to use even I can use it.
Pentax Optio M40.......2007-12-09
The camera has is even better than I expected. The images are sharp and the features are very easy to use. The camera body fits nicely in the hand and is very comfortable to hold, aim, and shoot. This is one purchase with no regrets!
Great but low light performance is poor.......2007-12-03
Price is good. Slim, compact, easy to carry, and easy to figure out and change settings. But picture quality in low light or shadows is poor. It's blotty and fuzzy. I've seen better pictures.
Just Right for Me.......2007-11-01
I purchased this product because of its ease of use with the various functions being depicted on the viewing screen with a description of when they could be used. The camera is also a perfect size for my hands, as opposed to others which are often too small. I just find it perfect for my personal and professional needs, which include tracking patient treatments and progress. (I am a physical therapist.)

Pentax K100 Great first D-SLR.......2007-12-17
This is my first foray into the digital SLR world. I have always had Pentax film cameras (K1000, and ME Super) and have loved their quality. I've read that the new DSLR's use the same lens mount as the 35mm camera body so it made the most sense to stick with Pentax. In retrospect, old lenses don't play well with the new auto settings of the digital camera, and new lenses are designed to work specifically with your digital camera body. If you have an assortment of Pentax compatible lenses it may still make sense to stick with the same brand in the digital world. However, in retrospect I wouldn't have given this single factor so much weight in my decision, since I won't likely use any of them unless I intend to do a lot of the manual camera work in my head. I should say that the Anti-shake feature is "in" the camera body for Pentax, as opposed to the lens for Nikon. I really like this feature and has proven to help take sharp photos in low light lighting and is a plus if you do intend to use your old lenses. Overall I am very happy with this camera, I am a casual photographer and the 6MP is more than I need for the type of shooting I like to do.
Happy so far.......2007-12-12
Bought the K100D Super to use with my Pentax lenses from a ZX-30 35mm camera(also a great camera). After about a month of use, I am very happy so far. Huge difference in image quality and flexibility over my old HP Photosmart 730. Color and shapness are great and LCD screen is easy to see, even in sunlight. Have used a 300mm zoom and 2x converter on wildlife and pics are excellent. Would give it 5 stars, except I have only had it a month. Andy
great D-slr camera.......2007-12-08
GReat Camera, lightweight, easy to use, entry-level user, flexible, beautiful pictures. what else can I say?
my first DSLR.......2007-11-22
Pentax K100D Super
I like this camera, because this camera use AA battery, and built in shake reduction, and dust removeal and cost me very little.
This camera do not get face detection that I like to have, and the ISO, that I like have 50.
I will buy another Pentax, if they make one, with the things that I like,
and for the same price.
I like Pentax use AA battery for all their cameras.
I have all the lens( 10 ), for Nikon, but the D40 will not drive them, so,
I give up Nikon.
I have all lens for Canon too( 9), I will buy Canon DSLR, as soon as the price come down. ( as long as they can drive my Canon lens.)
So, I have to say good bye to my old friend( Nikon ), and keep my other old friend( Canon ), and say Hi to my new friend Pentax.
Best Investment.......2007-11-19
Well I bought this little piece of heaven over the weekend. Not to brag, but a local Camera shop had the kit, with the lens and K100D body not the K110D body for 399.99 regular price, minus the 100 rebate the pentax offers on their website (store had no idea) that 300 bucks for this beauty. Now I'm not going to say where I bought just know that their recommend by Pentax's official website.
So my review. It takes a little getting use to but this thing is amazing. I'm personal a no flash kinda guy and this thing really does an amazing job. It does fantastic at on night shots, and that what I live for with my camera. Capturing what I can't see (this guy also does great at capturing exactly what you seeing, its amazing" I do a white light adjustment and then figure out my exposure (I never trust the automatic and haven't tested it trial and error is the best way to go) and I'm getting unreal shot. My first run at night shots with this thing got me the shots I'll be sending out as christmas gifts this year.
My own mother found it hard to believe I took that shot, and thanx to walmart I've already gotten some excellent 8x10's and haven't even owned it for 48 hours yet. So GET THIS Baby, wether you buy it here (don't buy from walmart horrible shipping department) or Penn Camera, your shure to love your results once you get the basic down. Did I mention the top LCD that tells you your Exposure Appature battery meeter and two other things that I haven't figure out yet, and its got an excellent macro function, ok what are you waiting for buy this thing, and start shooting awesome pictures at a price no one is going to believe, (does better then my fathers Nikon D40 and my sisters Nikon D80 neither one believes what I paid and the quality) Also unlike nikon and cannon this supports all their previous lenes so lenes are easy to find and can be found at a steal. Not to mention this thing is made of Carbon something or other, its very solid....Also it has a built in CCD Cleaner, you just press a button and it makes some noice and shakes off the dust. EXCELLENT BUY a must have. If your looking at this, you should already be buying this.

Andy
great D-slr camera.......2007-12-08

my first DSLR.......2007-11-22
