Flawless over 5 years.......2007-12-22
Sky Golf SkyCaddie SG2 I have used this device 5 years and I have never had a minute's trouble with it. Where do these bad reviews come from? You turn it on as soon as you arrive at the course. (Don't wait till you tee off) The unit rides in the cup holder just fine. It automatically changes to the next hole for you so you never really need to touch it. If you play with a stranger, they may not even notice it at first, but they will love it before the round is over. On an especially good tee shot, you might push a single button, ride to the ball, push again, and see exactly how far you hit it. I programmed my course myself (it was before it became available for download). That is easy also. You just play a round about dusk, and push a button at the front, back, and middle of each green. Bingo.
Now I have the professionally-done version of my home course. It has the driving range also, so wherever I am on the range, I know the blue flag is 160 yards, etc. I'm a Mac guy and I hate that it doesn't support mac, but I get by using the office PC for downloads. The fee for the web subscription is a minor downer, but it has been worth it to download virtually any course in the USA. I have use the device in foreign countries as well. I have never once had the battery to run out on me. Maybe tomorrow, though since I just told that. I think the bad reviews must be when a button breaks or something. I just love mine and I would never be without it. PS: The intelli-green feature is not of any real benefit to me--the distances are the key !
SkyCaddie: Electronic Snake Oil.......2007-12-20
Sky Golf SkyCaddie SG2This product is simply junk. I've had two of them. Purchased at my golf club. The side mark button stopped functioning after 2 weeks of very light use, little of which involved the mark button. Noticed the failure when showing it off to a golf bud during a round. The club replaced it with a new one. That is when all hell broke out. The customer service at Sky Golf is just plain non functional.
On the first unit I had purchased a membership and warranty. After too many phone calls and emails to recall, I finally got them to transfer the membership from the 14 day old unit to the new replacement. Or so I thought. I was reduced to screaming into the phone to a lady that was more helpful than any of the other dolts. All they had to do was replace the ID/SN from the old one to the new one on my account and they failed miserably.
A month after the purchase I left for Saudi Arabia, where I spent 7 months. Upon my return I charged the unit and went out for a much needed round..no problem. I charged the contraption that night so that I could use it again the next day. Low and behold it doesn't work!!! I took it back the pro shop. They are trying to get the thing repaired and work through my ID/SN problem. I just want my money back at this point.
Don't buy this item. Sodomy is illegal in Texas, but apparently not where SkyCaddies are made.
Great device... when it works.......2007-12-03
I've used my SG2 for four months, and when I can get a satellite signal, I love it.
Knowing the precise yardage to each pin, hazard and fairway target from anywhere on the course increases my confidence in club selection, and thus my concentration over the ball and the accuracy of my approach shots.
I especially like the "mark ball location" feature which allows you to measure the distance of your previous shot -- now I have real data to indicate how far I hit each club.
THE PROBLEM: more often than not, my device cannot find a satellite signal. This is incredibly frustrating! I would be a five-star delighted customer if I could count on the gizmo to work when I get to the course.
I have no sense of whether connectivity is a function of geography (I live in Seattle), weather (I live in Seattle), tasking of GPS satellites to Iraq or what... but I cannot count on being able to use my SG2 when I go to play a round.
Check with other users in your area: if they have good satellite coverage, then buy with confidence.
poor repair and warranty policy.......2007-09-07
I am very disappointed in Sky Golf's policy on repair and warranty of my SG2. After six months the unit would not take a charge and Sky Golf would only offer a "refurbished" caddie at $169.00 or a replacement at $229.00. Since retail is around $259.00, Sky Golf is not making any real adjustment for a clearly defective unit. Buy at your own risk!
Sky Caddie SG2.......2007-08-28
After spending 280.00 for the SG2, buying the extended warranty ($20), and upgrading to the eagle membership ($50), I cannot even use the stupid thing because it is not Mac compatitble and I cannot download the courses that I have chosen! I'm sure it is a great product, but I give this a one-star rating mostly because of the customer service department--no phone number on their website and no response from their technical support department when you email them. What a waste of time and money!!!!

Impressively engineered, poorly documented.......2007-11-30
There are all kinds of features on this pack. The owner's manual explains some and leaves the others a mystery for the owner to figure out. Maybe figuring out for yourself what all the little loops and straps and pockets and hooks are for is part of the joy of owning a cutting edge bag, but I am not enamored.
The little document says there are "SlipLock attachment points on waist and shoulder harness." OK, I give up. What is a Sliplock attachment point? The FAQ on the LowePro website pretends to address this very question, but I know no more after reading the answer than I did before.
What is wrong with a separate drawing illustrating each feature? They say "Hideaway tripod holder with ice-axe loop accommodates standard tripod or monopod." The area they indicate on the tiny diagram seems to refer to a small zipper compartment, which would certainly not be big enough to hold even a 4-inch tripod.
I think LowePro is so busy coming out with fabulous new stuff they don't have time to stop and explain what they already made.
Great backpack........2007-10-24
Great backpack.Nice designed,and perfectly comfotbale.
The only problem is can't contain many equepment. The roome inside is a bit small for a backpack.
Great Multi-Purpose Backpack.......2007-10-21
The Primus AW is a nearly perfect multi-purpose camera backpack. I've been looking for a backpack that could hold a reasonable amount of photography and non-photography gear for several years, and this is the first I've found that manages get the balance just right. It has many things to like about it and only a few minor flaws.
The photography gear section is at the bottom of the bag. It is able to hold a professional body with a 70-200mm lens attached (but without the hood), along with a couple of other lenses and a flash. For most of my day trips, this is plenty of gear. The padding in this area is quite sufficient and there are dividers that can be arranged to partition the gear however you like. Access to the camera gear is through the back of the backpack, which helps prevent theft and allows you to get the gear out without getting the part of the bag that touches your back dirty. The photography section can also be accessed by a side panel that allows easy removal of the camera. While this works great for a regular-sized camera, my Rebel XTi with the battery grip on doesn't fit through the opening easily. I wish they would have made this access panel a bit bigger to accommodate the bodies with grips.
The upper compartment is a slightly padded area that can hold a lot of non-photography gear. I packed a first aid kit, food, maps, and a GorillaPod table-tripod in it and still had room to spare. On the front of the bag is a sort of half-open expandable area that is perfect for holding a jacket, books, or other items. It can even hold a small notebook computer. The outermost part of the bag has a tripod attachment that also worked great for trekking poles. Underneath the bag is the storage for the attached all-weather cover, should it begin to rain. Finally, on the side of the bag is an expandable pocket for a water bottle.
There are very few downsides to the bag. The first is the already-mentioned size of the side-access panel. This won't be a problem for most people that don't own cameras with grips. The second downside to the bag is that it only comes in one size. The bag is slightly short for my torso. It would have been great if they offered these in different sizes like camping backpack makers do. For me, an extra inch would have been great, allowing me to put more of the load onto my hips. The final negative that I have encountered is that there are no SlipLock attachments on the bag. I have a few accessory attachments that I use with my other Lowepro bags and they won't work with this bag.
Overall, if you're an average sized person who wants a bag to carry around for a day hike through the park or while touring a city, this bag is a wonderful choice. I have other bags for other purposes, but I can see this being my go-to bag for most occasions.

here is what i think.......2005-12-12
A caveat for kindred esthetes: my excitement in owning a silk tripod overshot my reading comprehension. This is a "slik tripod." As a previous reviewer noted this is not made clear on the product description. I must admit I couldn't even begin to fathom what a silk tripod would be like, nor whether it would prove sturdy enough to support this product, but it certainly appealed to my finer sensibilities.
With that being said, this is a high definition telescope and allowed me to study the thighs of people walking. I am working on some engravings of thighs, so observing the flow and ripple of the unabashed thigh is truly a necessity for this project.
Outstanding product.......2005-04-02
Great quality of vision, comes complete with tripod, a padded carrying case that opens so that it does not have to be removed to use the scope and zoom lens.
Very good for still or slow moving objects, much better if using the included tripod (manual says it is designed to be used with it) but a little tricky to see fast moving objects, such as flying birds, due to magnification and field of vision at higher zooming rates.
Good bargain, deserves five stars.
Brings the Maine islands alive!.......2004-06-20
I purchased this for my Dad for Father's Day, and he has not stopped raving about it. He can now look out his window in coastal Maine and read the names of sloops rounding islands far offshore. The price was so good, I hoped it wouldn't turn out to be cheaply made. Thankfully, the optics are powerful, and the housing is sturdily built for years of use. Note that a good tripod is included (not made clear on the product detail page). I'm VERY pleased with this purchase.
Very Good Product (but not Excellent).......2004-03-29
I shoot in the Civilian Marksmanship Program. The true test of a scope for me is if one can see a .223"-round at 100 yards (lighting conditions apply). The key thing here is the focus. To see a .223" hole in black paper with a black background can be very demanding on a scope... this scope will do it. I don't rank it as excellent (5 stars) because that would insinuate that this scope is as good as an equivilant aperature Kowa or Swarovski. Nevertheless, Nikon has produced an excellent product. If you're trying to get a good bargain at a budget price I recommend this scope.
This thing is amazing!.......2004-02-25
I just got back from a seaside resort on the Pacific Ocean. The hotel provided one of these scopes on our balcony for whale watching. I was incredibly impressed with the clarity, zoom ratio, and image width. In fact, I just bought one from Amazon. A bit pricey perhaps, but absolutely without question worth every penny.
