UV Filter to protect your lens.......2007-12-01
This is a good quality filter, if you don't wanna go cheap on your image quality this brand is the one to go.
Excellent - and this is the MRC version.......2007-11-28
I bought this recently and am using it on my ef 28-135mm lens on my Canon 40d. Fits perfectly and no more worries for my lens. Just to clarify, this is exactly the "MRC" version. just that amazon has a slightly different title as multi coated 2c. I never take out the filter off my camera except when I am using it with flash indoors. The lens flare is noticable when used with flash indoors since there is too much bright light reflection from the walls closeby. (But this is unavoidable with any filter that is out there). B+W UV MRC is regarded as the best by all and I certainly agree with it.
High Quality.......2007-10-24
Nice tight fit. Seems to clean quite well. Fits my Nikon 18-200 mm lens well.
Nice lens, but thickness causes vignetting.......2007-10-05
This seems to be a really well-made lens. The only problem is that the ring is so thick that on my camera I get vignetting in the corners of most of my photos. Next time I would definitely choose a lens that's thinner. I'm using a Nikon D200 with a Nikkor 18-200mm lens.
BW filters are great German optics for protection and for UV.......2007-09-26
Whenever I buy a new lens, I get a BW UV MCR filter to go with it. It provides a protective cover for the lense incase something happend to hit the front of the lens. It also keeps dust and any liquid from getting into the front of the actual lense. Also this filter does not affect the color or the quality of your photos.
Also having a flat glass in front of the camera lens make it easier to clean as well. If you are buying an expensive lens and you want to keep the glass in great condition, then I highly recommend it.

B+W Circular Polarizer is a highly efficient standard circular polarizing filter for all cameras with beam splitters in the light paths of their TTL exposure meter and with autofocus lenses. Circular polarization has the same pictorial effect as linear polarization, but allows for proper exposure metering and/or autofocus distance settings. B+W Polarizing Filters are available uncoated and with B+W's proprietary MRC coating.

Great polizer to help make the sky and other colors pop! Sunsets too!.......2007-11-28
If you have quality glass, like the Canon L series, then you need quality filters. the B+W are made from ground optical glass, not a piece of plain glass like as you see in the tiffen and hoyas filters (even the expensive ones are still cheap grade glass). Only B+W and Heliopan put the time and $$ into making filters that are designed to be used with your quality lenses and not distort and reduce the optical quality of them. I have 2 MRC, 1 Kaesemann, and 1 slim one, and I love them. I have a Heliopan as well, and I prefer the B+W a little bit more as its a brass ring and not aluminum and thus does not bind up as easy, and thats important when you want to change filters quickly! I like the MRC the best of them all, the slim one is a pain since you cant put a normal canon lens cap on it, but the Heliopan slim one you can... If you use a cheap filter on a pro grade lens, you are wasting your money, on the lens and the filter as the filter just hurt your image quality, and thus you lowered the quality of your lens! In filters, like lenses, you get what you pay for!!!
I shoot in all kinda of weather conditions, from sunny and warm, to windy and cold or snowy, and I have never had any major issues with any of my B+W filters acting up! I prefer the MRC or even the Kaesemann over the entry level one, but even their entry level one is ground glass, so you still get a great quality filter at that price point.

Graduated 502 neutral density filter has a reduction of 2 f-stops due to its 25% transmission factor.
Customer Reviews:
No two B+W 502 filters have the same density and color!.......2007-10-16
B+W 501 and 502 graduated neutral density filters vary tremendously in color and density. They have a serious quality control problem.
My needs for 3D filming left me with no alternative but to find a matched pair of B+W 502 filters - it took three months to come up with a pair that had the same density and color and even then, they have a slight blue-green cast. It's next to impossible to find a B+W 502 that's actually grey (neutral) like it's supposed to be.
See my article with links to photos comparing multiple B+W 502 graduated neutral density filters in the Photo.net Large Format photography forum:
http://photo.net/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg?msg_id=00MfNR
If you are using a rangefinder or any other camera that does not allow you to examine the effect of the filter through the camera lens, there is unfortunately no alternative to the B+W 501 and 502 in a round, screw-in mount other than the Heliopan graduated ND filters, but these are ridiculously low in density for their rating. The Heliopan graduated ND filters are all but useless.
If you are using an SLR, DSLR, or some other design that allows you to look through the camera lens (such as a view camera with ground glass), you should seriously consider the use of a rectangular graduated ND filter in an ajustable holder (instead of a round screw-in filter). Have a look at those made by Singh Ray, Lee Filters, Formatt, or Schneider Optics. They are all offered in both hard and soft edge gradients - the soft edge gradients are best for wide angle lenses, hard edge for normal or telephoto lenses.

Quality Filter.......2007-04-09
I'm not going to get into why one would want this specific type of filter - there are books on the subject that will go into a lot more detail - here is one example - there are many: The Photographer's Guide to Filters (Photographers Guide).
I will comment on the other review here in that this filter works fine if you use it as it was designed to be used, in most cases its to filter down a bright sky and keep your exposure correct for the rest of the shot (landscape). It is a round filter, so yes, you are limited on some of the choices compared to external plate filters, but that doesn't mean this filter is a flop.
B+W filters are made in Germany. Germany is consistenly one of the best producers of high end glass and optics. I have been told the reason the quality of these filters is better than most is that they don't make them as separate units, but instead they build a cylinder of glass and cut each filter off of it. Consistent quality. Screw ring is hard metal, so it is very difficult to strip the threads. I have messed up the threads on cheaper brands by accident.
In my experience, buying filters falls into the category of you get what you pay for. Cheaper brands are out there, but if you want a very high quality filter, that is durable and consistent with what you want to achieve with it... you can't go wrong with B+W filters.
Be sure to choose the right size - for example, Nikon prints the size on the back of the lens cap.
Useless.......2007-01-09
Since the grad position is only adjustable in a circular motion verses an up and down motion it makes this filter virtually unusable as the pattern's darkness cannot be adjusted.

Due to its light pink color, the KR 1.5 reduces the blue cast of daylight and results in a pleasing, warmer picture tone. At the same time, it blocks ultraviolet light and reduces haze in the scene. It is also known as a skylight filter and, like the UV 010, it may be kept permanently on the lens for protection. Filter factor is approx. 1.1.

Excellent quality.......2007-11-08
Very pleased with this filter. If you are looking for something more than just protection for your lens, then B&W filters have it for you. These tend to be very high quality, with the best glass. They do tend to be a little heavier than a less expensive filter, but all the more protection. From now on, it will always be B&W!

Product Description
This UV Filter blocks the invisible UV component of light from the sky, which can cause blur and to which many color films react with a blue cast. These filters should be called UV-Blocking Filters, because there are filters for technical applications that pass UV radiation and block all the other wavelengths. Nevertheless, the short term "UV Filter" has become established among photographers. UV Filters are ideal for photography in high altitudes (in the mountains), by the sea and in regions with very clean air. The pictures gain brilliance and disturbing blue casts are avoided. Because the glass is colorless, color rendition is not altered, aside from the elimination of the unwanted blue cast, and no increase in exposure is required. That makes a UV Filter very suitable as protection of the front element of the taking lens against dust, flying sand, sea water spray and the like, and it can be kept on the lens at all times. It is recommended for analog color and black-and-white as well as digital photography.
Product Description
By using this filter, it is possible to use the relatively longer shutter speeds while retaining a wide aperture even in bright illumination. This allows for the emphasis of the subject by controlling depth of field or creating motion effect with subject blur. Filter factor is 4.
