VariZoom's new VZ-PG-L (compact pistol grip) is one of three new medium duty camcorder controls offered by VariZoom. When used with the optional deluxe clamp, this compact prosumer control was designed for use on our custom DV camera shoulder support VZ-LSP, as well as tripods and other camera gear. Light weight with a curved handle for a comfortable grip when used with the VZ-LSP or other shoulder supports. This control is already a favorite of many videographers. It is packed with all the same functions as our popular VZ-Pro-L. The combination zoom and speed control dial allows you to vary speeds in a single movement -- smoothly from a slow crawl to fast and then slow again. Also features manual focus control, a "wake-up from standby" switch, a recording light indicator, and a universal tripod/crane mounting clamp.

Sharing the same electronics as the Pro-L zoom control, the VariZoom PGL is equipped with an aluminum housing, an isolated circuit board, and industrial components, making it extremely durable through the years. But the PGL is far more compact than the Pro-L, with an ergonomic pistol-grip design that's notably comfortable, especially for operators with average to small hands. No more growing frustrated by oversized controls that require too much dexterity for your tiny digits. The remainder of the build is roughly parallel to the PGL, with a patented design that employs a rocker and speed dial for "ramping," or presetting, zoom speeds with flawless, full-range precision. As a result, it's easy to vary speeds in a single movement, from a slow crawl to a fast zoom and then back to slow again. Users will also dig the centrally located manual focus and record buttons, which make it easy to operate the camera without fumbling blindly for the controls. Wielded by such organizations as CNN, C-SPAN, the National Geographic Society, and Nickelodeon, VariZoom's lens controls offer the widest array of functions in the industry. As a final bonus, the PGL functions equally well left- and right-handed.

I found this product to work perfectly for my TV/VCR combo that became pretty fuzzy after using and old tape. I purchased the PANASONIC NV-TCL30PT Dry Video Head Cleaner to see if this was going to work, or if I was going to have to buy another VCR. Luckily, the NV-TCL30PT worked perfectly. Within 15 seconds, I had a crisp clear picture again. I'll recommend it to anyone with a PANASONIC
product who needs to clean their video heads every once in a while. It's a great product, and quite reasonable too.

I agree with previous reviewer that this is more of a toy than a tool.
It is very small (about 3" tall) and easily portable. I found the product to be sturdy and well built. Controls are not smooth and it does feel cheap.
The item we received has a small pieace of stray material on the inside of the scope towards the rim of the lens. While it doesn't obstruct the main view of the subject, its presence is annoying.
It takes 2 AAA batteries (not supplied). There is a switch on the back to turn the light on and off. The light is bright and illuminates the subject very well. Overall, the product met my expectation and my family likes the product.

I doubt this little guy gets the magnification it claims. the cheap plastic parts work like cheap plastic parts. The focus and zoom controls dont hold their positions between observations, while working on the same job. that being said the scope is relatively inexpensive and i have used worse. this is more of a smart toy than a tool.

This has become one of the highlights for people coming over to my apartment and hanging out. I keep it out on the coffee table and inevitably during the night someone picks it up and starts checking everything within reach using it.
It gives you a view you don't get to see normally without any fuss, just turn the knob to focus or zoom. It works well on nearly everything short of glossy objects and bright white objects. For the price, this is a great toy for the curious.
quite fun, but probably not 100x.......2006-06-30
this little microscope is quite fun... it can let you see paper tissue as long fiber, and see carbon particles on a paper printed out by a laser printer. for many printings, i can actually see the "pink" color as red background with lots of white circle dots, making the red look like pink. so it is a lot of fun. However, I don't think it can really magnify to 100x or 60x, because at 100x, we should be able to see dust mites with it. (some photos of dust mite were taken at 200x on some website). but i used this microscope to look here and there, and i never saw any moving object such as a dust mite.
