Pen is Hard on Your Hand.......2007-12-20
PROS:
Pen has a nice weight to it, is wireless and optical, easy to configure, and battery rechargeable. Although the battery can only be charged by plugging in the USB charger (which means you have to keep your computer on 2-3 hours for a full charge) you can use the pen while it is charging. Cursor motion is nice and smooth.
The mini magnetic docking pad allows the pen to be rested in an upright position until needed. It can also stand upright without the pad. (Would be nice if the magnetic pad turned off the pen until in use to save the battery.)
Pen has a nice hi-tech sleek design that will cause your co-workers to ooh-and-ahh, and your kids to steal it for their computer. A carrying case so I could take it easily back and forth from home to work would be nice. I don't leave this at work because it is expensive and I don't want it stolen.
CONS:
Pen is awkward to use. Holding it like a pen is tiring on the hand. Letting your hand rest on your pants or desktop rubs your skin raw. It even rubs your fingernail cuticle raw. I tried resting my arm on the chair's arm and letting my hand lightly move the pen, this caused pressure pain on my arm and elbow and my hand became numb. So far, I have not found an easy way to hold the pen and not have hand, wrist or arm problems.
This pen has the right and left buttons on the spine of the pen, in a stacked button design; right button on bottom, left button on top. The right button is fairly easy to reach, but the left button (top button) requires an awkward motion to reach it. This often results in accidently clicking the wrong item on the screen.
I have small hands and I think someone with larger hands would have an even harder time using this pen.
After using this pen, I am wondering if a mouse pen is the wrong way to go unless you're an artist or something.
An excellent Photoshop tool.......2007-08-13
I previously used a Wacom tablet when working in Photoshop but my desk space is at a premium so I haven't been using the Wacom tablet lately. When I found a review of this wireless pen mouse online I decided to give it a try. It's cheap and doesn't take up much room on my desk (no more than a fat pen or two thin pens).
It's basically a wireless mouse in the shape of a pen. While that might not sound too helpful, it actually makes it MUCH easier to make detailed selections in Photoshop. I'm as accurate with this epen mouse as I am with my Wacom tablet and the Wacom tablet is much more expensive and takes up more space.
Bottom line, if you want to make detailed selections in Photoshop for image editing then this is a great tool!

Not a pen mouse. Worse than a regular mouse........2007-09-12
This is false advertising.
This product is definitely not a pen mouse, the grip is awful.
The buttons are positioned so badly that it's close to impossible to click.
The tilt makes it inoperable.
A regular mouse can function much better.
I couldn't find even one good feature on this product.
$35 down the drain.
It's really not bad if you give it a chance . . ........2006-12-02
I bought the e-pen from Ezonics and I think it's a pretty good product. Sure it's light, and yes it does take some effort to learn how to use it properly, but it really is easy to use after you get used to it. Remember that even a regular mouse was regarded as difficult to use in the early days of personal computing. Give the e-pen a fair trial and you may be surprised at how good it is. I really find it to be much better than a standard mouse and it is especially good for me because I have nerve damage in my hands and the e-pen stresses my hand far less than a regular mouse. It may not be for everyone, but I am keeping mine.
Difficult and poor product.......2006-04-04
After searching around the internet for a pen-mouse with pressure-sensitivity, I came upon this product and decided to give it a try despite the fact that I could find little information on it. I returned it after two days of use.
The "ergonomic" pen is unbelievably light and isn't weighted to improve ease of use. The pen is made out of hollow plastic, it rests strangely in the hand, and it doesn't seem to respond consistently.
In order to get any use out of the pen, I was forced to hold it at an awkward angle (almost a 90-degree angle) and, over a short period, I found that it would stop responding as I eased back into a more natural position. What's more is that the cord, which weighs far more than the pen itself, constantly got in the way and made it even more difficult to use.
What really excited me about this pen-mouse was that it had a fairly high number of levels of pressure-sensitivity (as high as my low-cost Wacom pad!). Unfortunately, this didn't matter as precision was an absolute joke and it was nearly impossible to force the pen-mouse to do any of the things I needed (from drawing to web browsing and other simple actions).
I highly recommend staying away from this mouse. Whether you're using it for its ergonomic "benefits" (after holding this pen at a 90-degree angle for an hour or so my wrist was killing me) or for its potential for artistic application, this pen-mouse is a flat-out disaster.

Bad memory can cause anything from annoying error messages to complete system failures. Why risk it with cheap "mystery" memory? When you buy memory from Crucial, you're buying the same high-quality memory that leading computer manufacturers install in the systems they sell. In fact, because Crucial is a division of Micron, one of the world's largest DRAM manufacturers, chances are good that you have their memory in your system right now. While the "other guys" might claim to manufacture memory, they really just assemble modules out of chips made by someone else. Some don't have first-class assembly procedures, and some even use chips that failed to meet computer manufacturer's stringent testing requirements. Crucial memory goes through much more rigorous testing procedures than many other brands of memory. Some memory assemblers choose to accept a certain "defect rate" because it's cheaper to deal with returns than to test every part they sell. That may help their bottom line, but it's sure a pain in the neck if you're one of the customers who ends up with a bad module. That's why Crucial thoroughly tests EVERY module they sell and put their name only on the ones that meet their strict standards. You might expect memory this good to cost a lot more, but you'd be wrong. As an online memory upgrade provider selling directly from the manufacturer, Crucial memory is often available at lower prices than lower-quality modules.

Don't buy.......2007-12-24
Got it
Used it
Watched my film
Sent it back.
The picture quality is really terrible. When you play it back it looks as though it is skipping frames and the light capturing ability is another major disaster. In other words, if you want a good quality hd camcorder, look else where.
Handy, good HD videos and acceptable still images.......2007-12-22
Reading all the negative comments here, I have lowered much of my expectations. Perhaps that's why I was more than satisfied when I saw the videos/pics I took with this camcorder. I find the HD videos' quality excellent in outdoor situations. Indoor videos are a bit grainy but much better than my miniDV camcorder (Sony earlier model) in quality (mostly due to its higher resolution). Still images are not spectacular but good enough for screen viewing and ordinary 4R prints. It has some limitations in the angle of view as reported. If you use telezoom a lot, better use a small tripod to minimize shaking, though this is not a drawback unique to this camcorder. Its digital image stabilization function does help a bit. Autofocusing will be an issue if your object doesn't have any vertical "lines". I didn't find this a problem most of the time. Overall, it's handiness, HD quality and ease of transfering to computer for editing (perhaps the price as well if you can get it under %400) make it one of the best videocams for family daily use.
mediocre digital camera, and a medium video camera..........2007-12-22
i got the camera and tested it into my office building at 12pm near the windows and i found the quality of my film to be grainy, quite a lot actually. the spanning across the room wasn't fluid.
then i compared the quality of the video with a standard camera such as Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX2 and i found the quality of video to be similar even though i wasn't using the hi-def...
My conclusion is that this camera is beautiful but is a mediocre digital camera, and a medium video camera!...
not good enough of the video to justify the 299 dollars price point!...
i will try to be patient enough for the next version from Xacti or maybe a new competitor in this form factor...(pocketable)
Exceeds my expectations-- definitely a keeper........2007-12-21
First of all... the b*tching that everyone is doing about this camera is completely absurd. I almost didn't buy it because of that. I got this camera for $299 and it is completely amazing. Like EVERY CONSUMER CAMERA, it doesn't handle low-light without some noise. Reading the manual and manually changing the settings (very easy things to do) will make using the camera 100 times better. There are even assignable short-cuts to change the settings quickly for different situations.
Now that I got that off of my chest...
The camera's picture quality cannot be compared to other consumer mini-dv cameras (which was my only other option). It is crystal clear (most of the time). The focus problems (which aren't as bad as everyone purports) can be easily resolved by using manual focus or by locking the automatic focus with a short-cut. Using the camera for more than 20 minutes will teach you a TON about how to operate it. The more you use it, the better your footage will turn out. I had low expectations because of all of the complaining on these comments. This camera has blown me away.
As for complaints about charging... the brick is not that big (and the stand is not needed for charging). All you need in order to bring this baby on vacation is the camera and the charger-- not too difficult.
For me, I have no problems with the camera being "too zoomed in."
These comments convinced me of the fact that people will complain about ANYTHING. If you are interested in this item-- it is a great buy! If you are a videophile that uses $5,000 HD cameras, stick with those. For home users, this is a fantastic camera. Buying any consumer camera and expecting to get a "cadillac" is silly. This is more like a very very nice moped. In comparison, it makes most mini-dv cameras look like skateboards.
I would definitely recommend this (and already have) to friends and family.
**Extra note: do not expect to edit/view the footage on your computer unless you are running at least a Core Duo or Core 2 Duo. It runs great on my MacBook Core Duo (1 GB of RAM). Does not work too well on my aging 12" PowerBook G4.
Great style and design but poor results.......2007-12-21
It looks great, it feels great, and everybody wants to check it out, but at the end of the day, the output doesn't live up to the design. I came home from my recent trip with fewer 'keepers' than ever before with a digital camera.
The good:
-Battery life seemed good. I got through most days with no issues on having to recharge the batteries.
-The form factor is excellent! It feels solid in your hands.
-When you are outdoors in bright light and good conditions, the output can be very good.
The bad:
-Photos were very noisy and grainy. Night pictures were terrible. Focus was hit and miss even in daylight shots.
-There is no wide angle view in this lens. Like other reviewers have stated, you need to be standing very far back to get anything in the viewing screen. This is especially a problem at night because the small flash cannot make up the extra distance needed to fit everybody in the frame.
- I've taken much better digital still photos with your basic Canon and Panasonic Lumix cameras.
- Too much focus hunting in video mode. Doesn't always lock and hold the focus.
- This Xacti model has three large components needed for charging the device. You get two power cords, including one with a fairly large and heavy brick, and a base station/holder. Other Xacti models (like the E1, which I greatly preferred) only require a small plug in battery charger. When traveling, you will be packing three times the weight in charging cords and base units vs. other models, adding bulk and weight while traveling.
I ended up settling on the Xacti E1, the version that is waterproof and non-HD. I actually got better photo results from the E1, and the underwater features worked so well that the camera finds a unique niche in my camera bag - a perfect camera for when I don't want to care about water, wind and the elements. If you prefer an HD video camera, there are better options than the HD700. Believe the reviews.
