drivers, extra buttons = garbage.......2007-09-25
I thought this would be the top of the line Glidepoint product available on Amazon. It may cost the most, but you are better off with a cheaper version.
First, the 4 "special" buttons on the left don't work. Oh, maybe 10% of the time I hit one it will do the action I assigned it, but to me that is useless. Plus, because there is only a small ridge preventing you from gliding over to them, you run the risk of accidentally doing something you don't want to.
Second, the drivers are GARBAGE! I installed 3 versions. The ones on the included disc, the latest from the website, and the beta from the website. All of them started out working, but then quit. For example, I would set the sensitivity up very high and in a half hour or so it would revert to some super slow setting. Same with assigning the hot buttons. They simply stopped working.
I bought this with rush delivery because my RSI was preventing me from working, but it only served to tide me over until I bought the 3M Ergo mouse instead (which I highly recommend if you have wrist problems).
If you want a glidepoint really bad, buy one of the cheaper ones because the hot buttons don't work reliably on this and only get in the way of a nice glide surface.

I love this camerea, I have had the same brand before and it is wonderful and easy to use. Just remember to buy an Olympus xd card for it, it does not come wit the camera.

Purchased this camera for Christmas. Powers up fast! View screen is bright, big and easy to read. Controls seem easy to understand. We have the Sony Cypershot and Canon ELF cameras also and the Olympus quickly became the family favorite with the Sony a close second.
Poor Image Quality.......2007-12-21
I have now purchased two of the Olympus Stylus 820 cameras. The first one kept locking up on me. I would push the shutter button and it would just freeze. The only way to fix it was to remove/insert the battery and it would unlock. I took that one back and got another one. No problem with this one locking up but a huge problem with the image quality. I bought this camera to replace my older Olympus Stylus 410. I wanted something newer, smaller, faster, etc. The camera itself is great as far as size, has a great LCD screen, it's fast and easy to use. However, the image quality is terrible! Shots taken outside look fine. Constantly all inside shots are dark and grainy. To experiment I took some identical shots using my old 410 and the new 820. There is a huge noticeable difference in the photos. The 820 is not only grainy but the colors are off. The 410 photos came out crystal clear with colors that are true. I can't recommend the 820. I am lucky that that I am within my return period and plan to take it back tomorrow and I'll continue to use my old camera.
serious image quality concerns.......2007-12-19
I've been using this camera for a few days now, and I'm concerned about the image quality. I used to have a Cannon Elph, which I loved. I moved to Olympus because I was sold on the shock/water resist. Also love the feature set of this camera and some of the gimmicks... But so far, the image quality is way lower than my Cannon. I haven't given up yet, but I'm not optimistic that this is camera is going to cut it.
Image quality challenged.......2007-12-17
I bought this camera for a couple reasons. 1. Size (it's thinner than my "old" Canon SD700), 2. LCD size (MUCH bigger than the Canon), 3. Zoom (at 5x I was looking forward to better telephoto performance), Lastly, Features (the anti-shake and face tracking seemed like a great idea.
Well, I took basics like image quality for granted....big mistake! My first round of shots (using the default-auto settings) were out of focus, grainy (took them indoors with little light so that flash was needed) and basically looked like crap. As an experiment, I took 4 shots with the Olympus and Canon framed exactly the same...both with AUTO settings. The difference was DRAMATIC...Canon looked awesome...every Olympus shot was grainy and poorly focused.
I suppose it's possible that I got a bad sample from Olympus; I'm going to try to return it.
