I've used this keyboard with my laptop when running linux (ubuntu), windows xp, and windows vista. I didn't have to install any software for any of these systems, only plug in the usb dongle and turn the mouse and keyboard on. The mouse wheel not only functions as a scroll wheel and middle click button, but you can click it left and right too (usefull for left and right scrolling in firefox for instance).
I've been using this setup for about a year at this point, and I couldn't be happier! I went through two other crappy infrared keyboards prior to this, so the Dell was a fantastic upgrade.
PS I don't know what that other 1 star reviewer is talking about.. I think it must be some issue with their computer. If that happens, just return it, but I doubt if that will happen. It's probably just a fluke.
PPS Sometimes one can find this brand new for practically half the price on.. let's just say the world's most popular auction site.
Great Bluetooth Keyboard Mouse Set.......2007-12-06
This is a great bluetooth set that works well with my laptop and desktop. I received 2 for my birthday and the one I am using is great. Very easy to hookup and use. Has a range of over 30 feet in my house. Went across the house and still had a strong signal. Battery life is very good compared to my old wireless keyboard and mouse set. The keyboard keys for volume and video/music program control are really helpful and so are the programmable keys on top of the keyboard. The mouse is the best one I have used, it has side keys in addition to right/left/scroll and is very smooth. I would recommend this set to anyone looking to get a bluetooth or wireless mouse/keyboard set.
WORST keyboard EVER.......2007-11-28
I HATE THIS SET and, yes, I know hate is a strong word.
It disconnects all the time. Crank up the computer and hmmmm... will there be a keyboard today? If not, you get to use the hidden on-screen keyboard to even log into your computer to fix the connection. FUN! Both mouse and keyboard disconnect themselves several times a day and reconnecting doesn't work as well as it should. You don't just press a button and magically have service again, you have to jump through hoops and play games to get it to work again. It is a great big HASSLE.
I am going back to a corded keyboard and I will keep a backup mouse around for when this bluetooth one crashes. The one perk it has is the mouse movement.. very smooth, fast and accurate. I prefer using the bluetooth mouse for that reason, but it is definitely unreliable. It made my job a lot less enjoyable.
OH YEAH.. the keyboard will sometimes stick and type the same letter for a few lines and then you get to erase all the extra characters.
Stick to the old radio controlled wireless!!
I love Dell, but this bluetooth keyboard thing is garbage. I don't think it's Dell, I think its the idea of using bluetooth for keyboard and mouse.. its a stupid idea and it doesn't work well.
