The only thing that warrants giving this product 1 star is the fact that the seller shipped it fast. Kudos to them, it's not their fault the product doesn't perform.
Published range should be 5 feet. It is exactly 8 feet from my chair to the receiver and I cannot get it to work. If I move a foot closer and tilt the keyboard toward the sky I can get it to work. Now I have to sit right next to the receiver and I have to look at my screen (flat panel plasma) from about a 15 degree angle. The performance is absolutely horrible even when it works! I cannot describe how bad this is.

Not Many Other Choices.......2007-09-04
I have researched other CD storage devices and there are not very many of them. Out of all them, the Century CD is the most cost effective. Learning to use the product was a bit of a stretch. I too am an IT guy and had a hard time figuring this thing out. But one you learn it, I think it's pretty ingenious. Again, not user intuitive.
It creates a snapshot of the files stored on the discs you store. So essentially it stores all the file names and disc names (which are customizable) in its own database. When you want a particular file, you just double click on it and the disc will pop out.
What I didn't like was the sound it makes when you first start up your computer. You cant use it without a computer by the way.
It sounds like a car starting. But other than that it's pretty quiet. I also didn't like how it looked. Kind of clunky and ugly compared to the Media Carousel by Ziotech.
I haven't stacked the 2nd organizer so I don't really know how that would work. I currently have the functioning organizer on my desk and couldn't imagine how two of those things stacked together would look.
The 2nd one could be a nice gift...

We bought this knowing that it would help us organize the tons of dvds and cds we have in our house. We were extremely disappointed. First, there were NO INSTRUCTIONS! My boyfriend works in an IT department and it took him an hour to figure out how the thing was supposed to work with sorry organizing software it came with. Honestly, we could deal with that. Then there was the device itself. The dvd/cd just "rolls in" as if you were rolling it across the floor! Then, to expel the dvd/cd, a lever actually pops the side of the cd to make it come out of the slot.
This isn't my idea of how to store my valuables. We will save our money and buy the way more expensive cd organizer also available on Amazon.com

It is a decent product. We have 7. 6 are fine, 1 is noisy. I am looking for 3 more to increase our capacity further. Correct it IS orphanware. However the Centurion CD looks to be the same product. However at the price, and with its functionality I still like them. Wish the software was better. Remember to backup the database. If you corrupt or loose access to a system, you don't want to have to re-enter everything.

Be aware that this product seeems to be "orphanware." That is, if you email the manufacturer you will get nothing but an automated reply saying that they will be getting back to you. They don't. One hopes that's not typical of Aussie customer service.
I have two of the units. One has worked fine, one has trouble after loading about 80 disks. Even after deleting everything and reloading there is still the same trouble.
But even after all that, I'm still considering getting another one.
It's amazing the price differential on the 'net - I've seen as high as $99, and as low as $35. It pays to shop around.
