Nice little keyboard.......2007-06-18
I was in the market for a small low-profile keyboard and this one fit the bill. I've been using wireless keyboards for some time, but I found myself needing a good old USB board for the occasional BIOS adjustment or when Bluetooth acted up. The finish is nice, it's very small, and I'm a fan of the low-profile laptop-like feel, which may not appeal to everyone. In short, there isn't much to complain about. Of course there's no point in dwelling on limitations one would expect with any smaller keyboard (no number pad etc.). If I didn't already have a Logitech keyboard, I would probably use this one full-time instead of just for occasional emergencies.
nice size, nice key action.......2005-09-25
I am a recovered sufferer of RSI (repeptitive stress injuries - arm/wrist pain from using the computer too much), so I have to be really careful about the kind of keyboard I use. Since I am now a graduate student in ergonomics, I have gone to a lot of trouble to set up my desk to reduce the strain on my body from using the computer. I've been using this keyboard all day long for four months now without any arm pain.
Here's what I like about this keyboard:
* No number pad. I can center the keyboard in front of me and still have my trackball directly in front of my shoulder. With a traditional keyboard I either have to move the keyboard to the left or the trackball to the right, and reaching really aggravates RSI.
* Feel of the keys. The tactile switches have enough feedback so that you can type accurately, but they do not require excessive force. I've had membrane keyboards in the past, and over time they seem to stiffen and require more finger force to type. The keys do not seem loud to me.
* Low profile. The front of the keyboard is less than 1/2 of an inch off the desk, and the back is only a little higher. If I had a keyboard tray that tucked under the desk, it would take up very little room.
* Layout of the arrow keys. Other mini keyboards lay all four arrow keys in a line.
* Cable comes out of the middle, not the corner, so it doesn't get in the way of stuff to the left/right of the keyboard.
* Sleek and just a little shiny. I get compliments on it all the time.
Here's what I don't like about the keyboard:
* Indicator lights. There are separate lights for caps lock, num lock, scroll lock. However, these lights are completely unlabeled, and almost impossible to see in a brightly lit room.
* Have to hold down function to use the insert key.
But neither of those is terribly important to me, so I give it four stars.
Elegant, quiet and smooth as silk!.......2005-04-13
My MiniType keyboard is just as nice to use as it is to look at! The keys feel smooth and tactile, like on a laptop. The amazing thing is how thin and lightweight it is, for being actually made of aluminum rather than metal-coated plastic. The multimedia keys work without any driver on my XP laptop. I was also impressed that Kinesis has a two year warranty, which is pretty rare for an keyboard these days.
If it only worked as good as it looks.......2005-04-06
I bought this stylish aluminum keyboard to match the aesthetics of my aluminum Apple monitor. It looks good, and takes up little desk space. The action is pretty bad though- the keys have a cheap, loose, clackety feel and produce a grinding sensation when pressed. I'll be replacing it soon.
