Shipping rates.......2005-07-15
I read the previous review about the outrageous shipping charges applied by Circuit City.
I purchased this item a few days ago from Amazon and didn't have to go through CC. I got free shipping since I purchased a few other things and paid just the price listed. Also this price was much better than what I was offered by Sony after purchasing their top-of-the-line camera.
Maybe, since the previous review was written, Amazon has changed their minds.
Some Things you should know.......2005-02-01
When I bought my Sony camera I automatically bought the same filter kits I had for my Cannon Video camera, so I have both the Neutral Density and Polarizing filters. I wish I wouldn't have wasted my money.
First off I don't find that this filter does very much. Its not dark enough to make a huge difference, especially at the beach. There are only two filter types available for this camera and that is not surprising because the main thing you need to know is that this filter requires an adaptor that will cost you an additional $30-$40. The adaptor is a barrel shaped device that screws on over the lens, allowing it to extend fully. What this device doesn't do is follow the lens back in when you toggle the zoom switch. When the lens if fully extended, you get a normal picture. When the lens is retracted, even slightly, you get a round picture with a black square around it. You will then need to use a photo editing program to crop out the picture.
As noted above, I also bought the polarizing filter. While it may knock a bit of glare off a metal surface, it is no where near as strong as the filter I bought for my canon for very little more, and costs much less when you factor in the cost of the adaptor.
The bottom line here is that if you feel you need one of these filters, what you really need is another camera.

Awesome Package for Awesome Camera.......2007-11-25
It's been a long time since I've used my old 35mm AE1 but this is a great camera in a great package. I love it so far. I have alot to learn but I am very impressed so far. Looks to be a flexible camera for many situations. The Tamron lens has been worth the money already. The batteries last forever, I would hate to shoot long enough to use up both batteries as that would be a full day I think. As you might expect the bag is not the greatest but plenty good enough to last long enough until you find a replacement you can't live without.

I bought the Pentax K10D to take pictures at my sister's wedding earlier this year, and I bought this particular kit after doing a lot of checking at local and internet camera shops.
The K10D is an EXCELLENT camera, and a great introduction to the world of digital SLRs. I've rediscovered my inner photo bug, and it's largely because of this camera. I found it to be easy to use, the battery life is GREAT!, and the pictures turn out beatifully. It's done well in bright sunlight, indoor settings, nighttime photos, group photos, landscape photos, you name it and it seems to be able to handle it -- the only exception I can think of is some indoor dimly-lit photos without a flash, but any camera would have problems with that.
(I have to say I've also gotten envious looks and comments from a LOT of friends and relatives. A lot of people besides me like this camera.)
This particular kit is an excellent kit for the price. The only dissatisfaction I had was with the SLR gadget bag, it seemed to be a bit on the cheap side. But the lenses are great, the battery grip and battery are great, and the extra USB card and card reader are great.
