This thing rocks, after a short learning curve to master the programming software. I am using it for all my flight siming, currently working with
EECH2, Microsoft Combat and FS, FA AA, Pacificfighters all of em and janes. It is a substantial piece of hardware and so far I've notice none of the draw backs some others have listed, including using my usb pedals with em. The factory sofeware works well and theres hundreds of user created variations out there. Beats the heck outta my Saitek x45

While the metal body construction is excellent, and feels great in your hands - But the internal components are subpar. The movement sensors are prone to break down after a few months, requiring replacement.
The center of the joystick also has excessive center play, making precise aiming in flight combat impossible.
The large design of the joystick can also be extremely uncomfortable unless you have it positioned down by your waist.
The Cougar is only worthwhile if you want to pay hundreds of addition dollars to mod it with third party hardward, so that the internals will perform as well as the external shell.

This HOTAS (Hands On Throttle and Stick) setup is perfect for the combat flight sim enthusiast. Although all the keys can be remapped, it's not straight forward. Luckily, files have already been created for many popular games so you can remap them with little effort.

The Potentiomiters I am told will go bad very quickly, to really solve this issue you must buy 2 $300 Pot's and upgrade to A1-Quality Potentiometers made by a third party and install yourself.
On CH Hanger Cougar Thrustmaster forum, there are a # of wear issues that occur that require a tool maker to repair and this wear begins because of a lack of grease inside the stick, and multiple other wear issues can pop up.
The buttons are plastic and some break right off ex: paddle in front of stick most program for wheel brakes, now I am told if you write Thrustmaster they will quickly send you 2 - 3 to replace it and are generous along these lines and will also give you another set of lousy pot's FREE if you need to replace ones broke right away but WHY? They will just break quickly also. The throttle is very heavy and cannot be held in positions towards the front, it just falls down into full Afterburner.
The only thing to side step the Pot and wear issue is to buy a $500 Pressure Sensor which supposedly takes about 2 hours to install, now your stick no longer moves but senses your small pushes and pulls, ALL the buttons USED TO BE METAL, they are now ALL plastic. You judge for yourselves, those are the facts best I know them.
Awful lot of money and work by yourself to invest in what is supposed to be "once you use it, you will never want to use another", I think they should provide them with Metal Buttons that do not break and Pots of the Quality of this 3rd party from the Factory to really be any kind of indutry Leader, but that is just me.
