The Hydrostat is the most advanced ball head, designed to meet the demands of professional photographers for a lightweight, but at the same time heavy duty load capacity head. The 468MGRC3 has similar features to the standard range of ball and socket heads, with independent pan and tilt locks, 360? pan and +90? / -90? tilt movement - but employs a revolutionary friction and locking mechanism. An inner oil chamber is compressed by turning the locking knob, exerting even pressure on the whole of the underside of the ball, which ensures sturdier locking and higher capacity... for camera and lens loads of up to 10kg. This head has a magnesium die cast body, a 2" Teflon coated aluminum ball which combined with specially designed tension surfaces provides movement as smooth as silk. A calibrated adjustable tension control allows you to preset the ball tension to suit your camera weight and give you fingertip control. The oversized lock knob is easier and quicker to find and turn. The second benefit of the liquid-based locking mechanism is that it all but eliminates unwanted movement during the locking phase.

I've been shopping for a heavy duty ball head that won't slip when I tighten down the knobs, and will hold my Canon 5D with telephoto lenses and extenders. I already have a Bogen - Manfrotto Long Lens Monopod Bracket and wanted the ball head to accommodate the same mount plate on the camera. The product is expensive, but it is so impressively engineered I know it will be passed down to my children. Though hefty in size, it is surprisingly light in weight. Because the mount plate can slide on the head, I can carefully balance the weight of the camera and lens over the head for the best stability. This product is truly a work of art that's engineered for the professional high-end user. The specifications in the product description are 100% correct, and if anything they understate the beauty and sheer elegance of this product.

Great card, but..........2007-10-23
I recently purchased this card, along with the HP-1 headphones, to replace my Audigy2 ZS Platinum Pro. I've been impressed overall with the sound quality they produce, though there are a few caveats to keep in mind when considering this card.
First, it does not now, nor will it ever support Creative's EAX-HD. It supports EAX 2.0, but support for EAX-HD requires hardware that is simply not present in this, or any other non-Creative sound card.
Second, the configuration menu, while nice looking, is rather un-intuitive. The documentation is sparse, and I've still not identified what all the controls do.
I've used it with both my HP-1 headphones through both the HD-DAI connector and using the supplied adapters, and I've connected my surround sound system using the optical S-PDIF output. I did experience some issues switching back and forth between the HD-DAI and S-PDIF out, in that I have to change 3 or 4 settings in the configuration panel to get the correct sound each time.
Another feature Razer touts as a selling point of the card is Razer ESP. This is essentially a directsound hack, it alters the rate at which sound drops off by distance, making far-away sounds easier to hear. This could conceivably provide an advantage, though a learning curve is involved. I, personally, keep it off, as all it does is make me think people are closer than they are.
Finally, the included microphone. It looks a little silly, but its doesn't get in the way of eating or drinking, and you can remove (and conceivably replace) it if necessary. Sound into it is nice and clear, more than good enough that you won't see any reduction in quality over Ventrilo or Teamspeak.
All in all, my recommendation with regard to this product is this: if you're going to spring for the HP-1 headphones to accompany it, this card is a great buy. Setup couldn't be easier, and you'll be enjoying 5.1 surround in no time. However, if you're just looking for a good card to use with a pair of stereo headphones, I'd go with one of the slightly cheaper Creative X-FI cards to get EAX-HD support.
Fantastic Sound, Works with Vista!.......2007-10-21
I had previously owned the Creative Soundblaster Audigy ZS2 Platinum and was happy with the sound. Alas mine refused to work with Vista, and even to the degree it did, the software was mostly nonfunctional. I bought the Barracuda after seeing others' success using it with Vista. The sound is great, better than the Soundblaster. Alas the software only allows for very limited recording sources (mic and line in, as I recall) and I can't record off the Internet, which is imperative. I have yet to find a soundcard that works with Vista and allows recording from many sources. I will probably have to get rid of this card because of its limitations, unless I want to jury-rig a line out-line in cable, but for the moment I am enjoying the exceptional sound quality.
Driver troubles, sound woe.......2007-10-19
I great good technical reviews of this sound card. Apparently, the sound quality and range is very good, and Razer (a company of which I own a few products: mice, keyboard, headphones) tries to take care of their customers. But for the life of me, I could not get this sound care drivers to work without blue screen every time I tried to play a video game or watch a movie file.

My other on board card was adequate. This card is more than adequate. My system is far better with this installation. You will not be disappointed.
The sound is clear and louder. My logitec Z-5500 speakers didn't sound great until I got this card.
Audio Card Review.......2007-07-05
This is a great audio card that will work with any speaker system and head set using the adapter, which is supplied. When used with the Razer headset, it provides complete surround sound when gaming or listening to music. The card has optical out, which many people will not be able to use. I have a high end Logitech digital speaker system and therefore am able to use this feature. The control panel for the card, which is loaded into your PC via a CD, is easy to use and it does work well with the headset and speaker system. I highly recommend this card, especially for those who are considering purchasing the Razer headset. A great gaming experience!
