Overall value is below average, but since I got it for less than $100 of the going sale price its value was a bit higher. I definitely wouldn't have paid full price for it.
Picture quality: fair, digital stablizer is adequate, but on extreme closeups it has difficulty for some reason. The flash is not very good, instead of filling the area it tends to highlight the focused area and leave the background dark. The picture capture button is annoying, you have to push it pretty hard to take a picture and hope that you don't lose your aim or cause the picture to blur, two hands are needed. The image you see in the lcd prior to taking the picture isn't the true picture, you actually get much more of a "border" around the subject, which i consider memory waste and more time cropping later.
Movie quality: acceptable for websites, emails, and myspace/blogs. The movie format is not directly compatible with youtube, but worked fine when i uploaded it to photobucket and used an embeddable link for my myspace. The "TV quality" statement means that its antenna broadcast quality. Don't expect even cable quality. Weird quirk, it starts recording as soon as you change it to movie mode, which for "action/sports" i guess is a good thing, but I found it annoying as i recorded waste.
Ease of use: I love SD cards, easier for me to transfer the photos and movies to my different computer. I can't remember off the top of my head, but i think 1gb is an hour or more of video depending on recording quality. I have relatively large hands/fingers so using the small buttons is a challenge. It really takes 2 hands to hold the recorder still while using the buttons. The menu is pretty easy to navigate, just a matter of learning where the things you'll use more often are. The lcd screen is good, clear and bright enough. Even though i knew it didn't rotate, the desire to rotate it is always there. This means that you can't watch yourself while you record, I wish i had thought of that prior, since I wanted to use it on roller coasters/rides Another quirk is that when its shut, the screen is exposed to potential scratches, it doesn't safely close against the body of the camera.
Conclusion: Unless you find a great deal, don't buy it, the movie mode on most digital camera's is just fine for web pages. If you want higher quality, go for a real camcorder.
