I have been buying and testing digital frames for the holiday season. I bought a unit at a local large chain for a great price with all discount etc. Not at the prices listed here. This unit tops it all at $100-120 price range.
It has an incredible picture quality at 800x600 resolution. The internal scaling algorithm is very nice, so your large size pics display without much prior handling. Internal memory (128MB) allows several pics to be stored for permanent display. That way one can remove the additional flash memory and use it again, if need be.
I love the calendar/clock/alarm display screen with the picture show option. It has a very pleasant look and provides extra functionality for units placed on desktops. The clock option allows one to display the time while the picture show is going on. The only gripe I have is the fact that while in calendar mode there is no music play support.
I was able to play MP1 formatted videos, but no success with AVI files. Probably need to experiment a bit more to find the right supported codec.
Music files (mp3) play without a problem, and accompany slide shows if desired. One can play the music files alone as well. There is a headphone connector that allows connection to a set of external speakers. While the internal speakers are not very loud, the external speaker option provides plenty of volume, if needed.
This unit has a three layer construction: the actual body, a cardboard matt layer, and then a glass insert, all set in a changable frame. This results in a much more polished look than some other units that have a very plasticky or gadgety look. Plus one can replace the matt layer with any desired color material and achieve a level of customization to match decor. Alternatively, all the extras can be removed and one can just have a plain black box that displays images. There is also a extendable stand in the back, that can be rotated to allow the display to be portait oriented. The corresponding software option allows pictures to be rotated accordingly.
While the remote functions very well and is easy to use, it does not have a button for power on/off. So one has to turn on the unit and then control it with the remote. However, there is programmable on/off timer function that will allow the unit display to come on/off on a schedule, which is another nice feature. The zoom feature on the remote allows one to focus into the pictures of interest. And the sound can be controlled from the remote while the music is playing.
The included USB cable conects the frame to a PC. As soon as the cable is plugged in, the unit switches to a PC mode of operation, picture displays stop, and a message informs the user that a PC connection has been established and remote is disabled. On the PC, under WinXP, the unit shows up as a 128MB removable disk (due to internal memory in the frame), with full file I/O functionality. In addition, if there are any additional memory cards inserted, they also show up as additonal removable disks. As such. one can use the unit and copy files to/from any one of the inserted cards or the internal memory, to the extent of the storage allowed for each card. This makes it very easy to manage the files for display purposes. When the PC connection is cancelled, the unit switches back to internal mode and continues normal operations.
There are two plastic tabs that are to be removed before using the unit. One is on the remote control battery. The other on the battery at the rear of the case. I forgot to remove the one on the back of the case and the options and the clock setting were not getting stored. Once I removed the tab all worked OK. However, there is no mention of this second battery tab anywhere in the documentation.
I cannot express enough how nice the entire experience is using this unit. My wife was so excited about it that she insisted we get one for ourselves as well. I guess we have to wait for the next round of sales and buy one. It is highly recommended.
No customer support. Don't buy!!.......2007-12-01
Do not buy PanDigital. They do not support the product. Mine quit working (flash!) after less than 4 months. "Customer Service" told me "unfortunately...." after the 90 day warranty they would do nothing. Don't believe the manual or their website. They do not repair this product...There are NO parts, you are just SOL. Stay away!!

I would actually give this frame ZERO stars if Amazon would allow it. I purchased this product for my father back in August when the prices were at their absolute highest. Within weeks of purchasing it, the pictures on the slide show were no longer clear, weird lines starting appearing. Now, barely over three months later, not a single picture comes out clearly, all of them have black lines across them, this product is completely defective. And the best part is that customer service will not do a single thing to help because I am all of 10 days beyond my warranty. If you want to waste your money, and if you want the recipient of your gift to be incredibly disappointed, then by this frame. Otherwise, I highly recommend going with any other company buy Pandigital.

I bought this yesterday and I am very pleased so far with the ease of use of this and the dimensions of the screen. It is the second brand I tried (returned the first) and I like that both vertical and horizontal pictures look great with very little black on the sides. Pictures are clear and bright. Interesting note-- one store sold this regular price of $189 and another store put its price at $350. Get real--both had it on sale for $139, and I'm waiting for it to be cheaper the day after Thanksgiving. They will make great Christmas presents.

I liked the frame. The only complaint is that when i store music and photos to the in-built memory, it can't play both together. However, it plays both music and slide shows when i load it using my SD card.
I gave it as gift to my GF birthday and she loved it.
