The Velocity 8x Pro Sling Pack is slightly smaller than the Velocity 9x, but still accommodates a pro digital or film SLR with a grip (such as Canon's EOS 1D series or Nikon's D2 series) and an 8-inch zoom lens attached. Inside the main compartment, the camera with lens attached is suspended on two vertical, foam-padded dividers that are internally reinforced with rigid plastic. The Velocity 8x can be carried comfortably like a backpack, but when swung around to the front, the secure zippered Quick Flip Top opens away from the body for fast and convenient access to camera gear. A well-padded sling strap comfortably distributes the weight, but need not be removed to quickly access photo equipment. A Tuck-A-Way waist belt allows the Velocity 8x to be used comfortably during vigorous activities such as hiking or biking. The front pocket has organizer pockets inside to keep a mobile phone, PDA or photo accessories within easy reach. The Velocity 8x Pro Sling Pack also features Tamrac's US-patented Memory & Battery Management System that uses red flags to identify available memory cards and batteries from ones that are used up. Who tests these camera bags?.......2007-07-12

This camera bag barely serves its function. I am at happy at least that I purchased the larger bag, because it does not hold too much. and due to its design, the contents of the bag are accessed through the top, so one has to stack accessories and it becomes quite cumbersome when having to search for things that are on top of eachother. The small zipper front holds only flat items and barely a wallet or cell phone. The shoulder strap buckle is very uncomfortable against my chest, so I am constantly adjusting it. Being new to the camera hobby, I was hoping that this bag would fit my needs, but I quickly realized that was no excuse...I should have opted for a backpack type bag where access is easier.

Great camera bag for people on the go.......2007-07-06

I got this bag right before going on vacation. I easily fit my Canon XTI camera, a zoom lens, and my Canon Optura digital camcorder in the main compartment. The bag has several padded dividers so that everything could remain scratch-free. The dividers are kept in place by velcro so you can adjust them to fit your camera(s) and lenses.
The pouch in the front of the bag is big enough for me to carry 2 mini dv tapes for my camcorder, an extra battery, 3 Compact Flash cards, and the battery charger that came with the Canon XTI. Even with all that, there is still room left over for more stuff. The front pouch also has these red tag things that you can use to denote which memory cards or DV tapes are full.
The bag felt very comfortable and I was able to carry it all day without feeling the need to take it off like a regular backpack. Since it goes across your chest it doesn't pull on your shoulders and arms like a regular backpack would. We went to Disney World and walked around from morning to night and it didn't bother me one bit.
Another nice feature is that the bag opens away from you. So when I needed to grab a camera out of it I just swung it from my back to my side or front and opened the top pouch without it constantly falling close and getting in my way.
The only negative thing I could think of is that when you take the bag off and set it down, it doesn't stand up on its own. You either have to lean it against the wall or lay it flat.
Bottom line, this is a great bag for active photographers on the go or just folks that hate their camera bags falling off their shoulder all the time.
