Monitor Stand is a problem but there is a solution.......2007-12-31
This is a great monitor and the picture is great. Samsung has realized that there is a problem with the stand and has discontinued this model (stand). I contacted customer service and they are sending one out to me free of charge. If you are on the fence, get the monitor, the stand is the only issue and it has been addressed. Make sure to ask if the stand you are getting is the updated one when you buy it.

I purchased this monitor just over a year ago. I began having the "defective stand problem" after only a few months, but at first the tilt was subtle, and I thought it was just a part of the stand's design that it would'nt go totally vertical. As the tilt progressed I realized it was a defect in the stand. Research this online, or hey, just read all the reviews here and you will find the problem is widespread. (The actual flaw is a weak, poorly designed casting that the monitor attaches to--the metal stretches out of shape.)
So I emailed Samsung for help but got back no acknowledgement whatsoever. Then I called and was told they were a bit slow with getting the replacement part out, so it would take 10 days to 2 weeks to get the replacement. Well, still no stand, after three weeks. So I called again and was told this time that they now don't even know how long it will be before they have the part to send me!!!
This morning I sat down in front of my computer and found that the monitor has died! No picture at all, though the light shows it is getting power. Tried the monitor on two different computers and the result is the same. So now the monitor will have to go in for service, and I have the privelege of buying a new monitor so I can work during the month or more it will take for service. You bet I am plenty p_ss_d about the monitor, as well as the company!
I used to refer to Samsung as "the new Sony" because of the near-infallible quality of their products. Well, I guess they are now on the same path of decline that afflicted Sony (and which made possible the rise of a company like Samsung). I won't quite say "never again!" with Samsung--YET--but this is a really bad sign from them.
Great monitor with one glaring issue.......2007-10-07
First off, the pros,
This is a really cost-effective, clear, clean monitor with great colors and and good response time for all my games. Comes with vga and DVI inputs and is just a good, solid monitor all around.
Then the cons-
As mentioned earlier, the stand begins to fail after only a couple of months. The screen will "tilt" forward, with no ability to tilt it back up. It started out as a minor annoyance, but it progressed to the point where I had to prop a book under the stand's base in order to "re-tilt" it to a usable angle.
Contacted Samsung about this. No response yet.... but only been one day...on a weekend... :)

A stand that can't hold the weight of the screen (poor adjustment range even if it could), three stuck pixels, uneven brightness on a dark screen. Poor value at any price. I wouldn't buy a Samsung product again, despite their great looks.

I am very computer literate and techno-savy, i.e. I know how to build a computer, install drivers, etc . . . Out of the box the monitor does not work. Who needs this kind of aggrivation.

The Tamrac Velocity Sling Pack is extremely useful for photographers. I bought the largest capacity one, called 9x, and went to Italy with it, with my big digital camera. It sits very comfortably on your back, or on your side, and then all I need to do is slide it to the front to immediately access my camera. I never had to take it off, to access anything inside. It has a second compartment where my phone, my organizer, my Garmin navigator, wallet, etc...were. The whole thing is padded, and I can reorganize the velcro pads to my will. I use it all the time, even if I don't carry the camera. Overall, a very good purchase.
Not As Good As it Looks.......2007-06-11
I have Canon 30D with a 70-200 f/2.8 the kit lens and a 480ex. I bought this backpack from Samys camera and I am sorry that I did. It's the only thing in it's price range that will fit a 200mm lens but you can only sling it on one shoulder [you can't switch sides], it's awkward to get the camera out, and it doesn't fit me very well unless you really cinch the thing up and then it's both impossible to get off [The strap doesn't have a clip and can't be removed] and impossible to get the camera out. On the plus side it is well made and will definitely protect your gear, it will just be uncomfortable while you do it.
